Mō te tūnga | About the role

Dana Kirkpatrick MP is looking for an MP Support Advisor to join their team. Based in the Whakatāne office for 16-24 hours per week this is a wide and varied position providing community engagement and constituent services. You'll be providing information and support to constituents, helping your MP engage with the community, and supporting your MP's activities in the community. The ability to build strong and trusted relationships is key to being successful in this role.

You'll need to have strong relationship management and interpersonal skills along with the ability to work with a diverse range of people and organisations. You'll be a key player in the MP's support team across the East Coast electorate, although at times will be required to work autonomously.

You have a high level of empathy and cultural sensitivity and no matter who you're engaging with, you leave them feeling supported and valued. Ngā haepapa | Responsibilities

  • Liaise between the MP and the community, representing the MP where required
  • Develop and maintain relationships with local groups and networks, to understand and respond to their needs
  • Receive and investigate constituents' concerns and issues, meeting with constituents for further information where required
  • Advocate for constituents at Ministerial level, with Government agencies, e.g. Work and Income, Immigration New Zealand, and with other business and community organisations where required

The pay band for the role starts at $70,000 per annum and appointments will be based on skills and experience. All employees who work for MPs are employed on an 'events-based' agreement, with your employment linked to your MP. This role is based in Whakatāne office for 16-24 hours per week.
