Ko wai mātou - Who are we

Puke Ariki is Taranaki's museum, holding an extensive archive collection of early settler material, plans, newspapers, local family and public documents right up to today. The archive is valuable to learners, families and researchers; a store of information on the region and its people today and in the past.

Te āheinga - The opportunity

We are seeking an experienced archivist to ensure the best management, care and preservation of Puke Ariki's archive materials. This is a rare and exciting opportunity for a curator with experience in library, archive or records management experience, to work with the museum and support access to history via the Taranaki Research Centre.

Tino takohanga - Key responsibilities

The role works collaboratively to assist with the acquisition of items which will enhance the Archive collection, ensure it is discoverable, and accessible. Central to its purpose is publicly promoting the archive, with opportunities to research and publish and work with Puke Ariki exhibitions and public and learning programs and provide information for public inquiries and through the Taranaki Research Centre.

Ngā tino pūkenga me ngā wheako - Essential skills and experience:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in library science and/or archives management, museum, history or other qualification
  • Minimum of five years' experience in collection management and administration, particularly in a museum, archive or special collection
  • Experience in curatorial and exhibition development a benefit
  • Demonstrated experience accessioning, arranging, and describing physical and electronic archives with knowledge of Vernon CMS a benefit
  • Knowledge of international archive and/or museum practices and standards, including best practice archival processes
  • Capability in research, writing, public speaking, working in a team and with the public
