Napier Aquatic Center is thrilled to introduce its new Swimtopia Programme, a Swim School venture designed for a fun, secure, and inclusive learning environment.

This isn't your typical Swim Instructor position; it calls for someone adept at supporting Tamariki with neurodiverse abilities! You'll not only engage directly with them but also collaborate with their whanau and support networks to help them achieve their emotional, water safety, and swimming objectives.

This multifaceted role entails both administrative tasks and hands-on instruction, spanning from setting goals with each whanau to conducting water safety sessions in our pool.

Your duties will encompass:

• Collaborating with Tamariki, whanau, and support networks to attain their emotional, water safety, and swimming goals.
• Clearly communicating lesson objectives and steps successfully to the Tamariki.
• Utilising visual aids to convey lesson objectives or tasks effectively.
• Employing basic sign language for Tamariki who may benefit from it.
• Assisting whanau in approaching their Tamariki effectively.
• Breaking down objectives into simple, visual, and achievable steps.
• Understanding each child's unique needs, interests, triggers, and optimising lesson engagement accordingly.
• Ensuring safety for yourself, Tamariki, and observers at all times.
• Offering opportunities for enhancing water confidence and safety.
  
  

The successful candidate will possess:

• Swim Teachers Award or AUSTSWIM Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety (This will be provided if needed)
• Experience and training in the education system, working with children who are neurodiverse
• Previous experience working with children who are neurodiverse
• Ability to work with the child and family on individual goals
• Ability to pivot quickly and modify your lesson based on the child’s current
• Patience and understanding with children who are neurodiverse
• Current drivers license (Restricted minimum)
