About the Role
We have an opportunity for a Planner to join our team! We are keen to hear from you whether you are just starting out your planning career or you are in a senior position with years of experience under your belt. We welcome a qualified planner that could fill the role with experience befitting either a Planner, Intermediate Planner or Senior Planner.
If you join our team, you would be responsible in ensuring that council meets the legislative responsibilities it has around resource consenting and administration of the district plan. You will become a trusted face of council and you’ll be passionate about maintaining good relationships and adding innovative thinking to our team and district.
Depending on your experience, the duties will vary, however, some of your day-to-day duties may include;
- Processing resource consents and related applications, including notified applications, and writing planning reports and attendance at hearings
- Providing planning advice to the public, consultants, and staff,
- Administration and implementation of the District Plan, educating the public and responding to enquiries,
- Fostering and maintaining relationships with other departments across council educating over consenting and district plan requirements
- On occasion, acting as an expert witness on behalf of Whangarei District Council on appeals and mediation, including providing evidence to the Environment court
About You

Your people skills will enable you to work successfully with a wide range of staff and customers and your collaborative approach will enable you to work across the organisation. A resilient and adaptable attitude will be an asset to you in this role. You will have a recognized qualification in Resource Management Planning and a minimum of one to three years’ experience in the planning field.
