To work in Medical Laboratories, one will need a registration with the Medical Sciences Council of New Zealand. The registration process will require you to have some experience of working in the Medical Laboratories and a qualification. We offer a couple of pathways to work within our Patient Services and Specimen Services Team through a pathway to qualify as a Pre-Analytical Medical Laboratory Technician

On successful application, you would join us as a Trainee on a full-time/part-time/casual basis. You will get on-the-job training and work towards a qualification of Pre-Analytical Medical Lab Technician through the Ara Institute of Canterbury.

On the job, you will provide excellent customer service and high-quality care through our 11 collection centres, home visits and collection for three private hospitals & numerous rest homes in the Canterbury region. Your daily routine will include interacting with patients visiting our collection facilities or through your home visits, collecting their information, collecting blood or other specimens as required, preparing samples to be collected by the Medical Couriers.

Currently, we are inviting an expression of interest to work with us in the following positions:

• Trainee - Patient Services (Phlebotomist - works directly with patients from our collection centers and home visits)
• You will provide excellent customer service and high-quality care through our 11 collection centers, home visits and collection for three private hospitals & numerous rest homes in the Canterbury region.
• Your daily routine will include interacting with patients visiting our collection facilities or through your home visits, collecting their information, collecting blood or other specimens as required, and preparing samples to be collected by the Medical Couriers.
• Trainee - Specimen Reception (works in the laboratory environment)
• Barcoding, receipting and preparing specimens coming in to the laboratory; performing data entry of patient and test details; answering telephones.
• You will work collaboratively as part of the team, work well under pressure, and have an eye for detail and problem-solving ability.
  
  
  

To be a successful applicant you should have:

• Legal eligibility to work in New Zealand (NZ Citizen/AUS Citizen/NZ Permanent Resident/NZ Resident/Open Work Visa)
• Compassion for others, including a real desire to provide high-quality care to a wide variety of patients of all ages and circumstances.
• Demonstrate cultural and social sensitivity with empathy toward a wide demographic of clients.
• Ability to work in a team and excellent customer service skills including a high level of personal presentation.
• Strong attention to detail and an ability to follow processes accurately, even when under pressure.
