As Council Business Analysts, we deliver comprehensive solutions that involve people, processes, and technology. Our role encompasses conducting business analysis, offering project support, and delivering training for assigned projects.

The Business Analyst – Finance will focus on configuring finance systems, serving as a key contributor to the systems replacement project. This role involves analysing financial system requirements, configuring new financial systems, and ensuring alignment with organisational needs.

This role is fixed term for 18 months.

You’ll recognise the importance of the role as a Treaty partner and understand how that underpins Gisborne District Council’s work.

Duties include

  • Work closely with the finance department to understand their system requirements and translate them into design specifications.
  • Configure and customise financial systems to align with organisational processes and reporting needs.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure successful execution of tasks.
  • Conduct functional and facilitate user acceptance testing to ensure configuration meets quality standards and design requirements.
  • Provide training and support to project and finance team members on the new system functionalities, both during the project and for a period of time once the system is live.
  • Ensure staff training is planned, documented, and delivered effectively as part of all projects.

Skills and experience required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
  • Proficient in data analysis and financial modelling.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with IT, finance teams and external consultants.
  • At least five years practical, post qualification experience in accounting and systems roles.
