Mō te tūranga | About the role
We are seeking a kaimahi who will tautoko wellbeing and respond to the needs of whānau Māori living in Taranaki. The Kaiārahi will promote wellbeing by strengthening self-identity; reinforcing connections to others, to land and to place ensuring whānau are feeling accepted and included by others. The role will uplift the mana of our people and ensure they stay well and continue to thrive – working alongside Māori for Māori, embedding the approaches of Te Ao Māori.
You will be a champion of Whānau Ora-centered care and as a cultural advocate will lead, represent, and advise on those aspects which are related to Te Ao Māori and Māori culture. You will be working under the direction of the multi-disciplinary team within a community setting.

- A deep understanding of the Determinants of Māori Health
- Experience in applying Tikanga Māori as it applies in the role is desirable
- Well-developed written and oral communication skills
- A working knowledge of a Client Management Systems is preferred
- Excellent interpersonal skills and able to work as part of a team
- Excellent organisation skills and able to take responsibility for completion of tasks
- Strong work ethic, demonstrated by a high level of integrity, reliability, efficiency, and self-management
- Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with rangatahi and whānau
- Able to demonstrate practical understanding of the aspirations and challenges facing Māori communities
- Experience in applying Tikanga Māori as it applies in the role is desirable
- Well-developed written and oral communication skills
- Computer literate in Microsoft packages including Word and Excel
- A working knowledge of a Client Management Systems is preferred
- Excellent interpersonal skills and able to work as part of a team
- Excellent organisation skills and able to take responsibility for completion of tasks
- Strong work ethic, demonstrated by a high level of integrity, reliability, efficiency, and self-management
- Excellent attention to detail
- Able to handle sensitive and confidential information.
Tikanga haumaru | Safety checking
- Tui Ora is committed to the application of the Children’s Act 2014 and its intent to improve the safety of all children. This position is not for Children's Workers as defined by the Act, however, safety checking for employment will be required for this role.
