Mō te tūranga | About the role

We are seeking a registered nurse who will undertake developmental checks for pēpē and tamariki Māori living in North and Coastal Taranaki. You will work alongside whānau following their pēpē's discharge from a midwife to ensure they are reaching all their developmental milestones until they are 4 years old. You will also undertake the B4 School check alongside our Vision & Hearing technician once the tamariki reaches 4 years old. This mahi will be conducted from a Te Ao Māori approach ensuring you work collaboratively with the tamariki's whānau and follow our Whānau Hapai pathway. You will be part of the team who support whānau by working very closely with our kaiarahi who tautoko whānau as well if needed. In this role you will work independently as well as being part of a close knit team.

Kia ekena a angitū | To promote success in this role, you will have

  • A deep understanding of the Determinants of Māori Health
  • Experience in applying Tikanga Māori as it applies in the role is desirable
  • Well-developed written and oral communication skills
  • A working knowledge of a Client Management Systems is preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and able to work as part of a team
  • Excellent organisation skills and able to take responsibility for completion of tasks
  • Strong work ethic, demonstrated by a high level of integrity, reliability, efficiency, and self-management
  • Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with tamariki and whānau
  • Able to demonstrate practical understanding of the aspirations and challenges facing Māori communities
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Able to handle sensitive and confidential information.

Tikanga haumaru | Safety checking

  • Tui Ora is committed to the application of the Children’s Act 2014 and its intent to improve the safety of all children. This position is for Core Workers as defined by the Act and safety checking for employment will be required for this role.
