Mō Tēnei Tūranga Mahi | About the Role

To support the Kitchen Manager in establishing The EIT Hub Cafe as the premier food service provider by ensuring there is a primary focus on a passion for food and an excellence in service.

The Café Assistant is based at our EIT | Te Pūkenga Tairāwhiti campus reporting to the Tourism & Hospitality School and Campus Café Team Leader and will be responsible for:

  • Maintaining and participating in stock control
  • Assisting Team Leader with records of food sales for staff and students
  • Preparing and cooking fresh food items for the campus café including on and off-site catering and function events
  • Customer service
  • Barista duties
  • Conducting schedule maintenance and ensuring high standards of cleanliness in kitchen, restaurant, preparation area and barista area
  • Undertaking additional responsibilities and tasks relevant to this position as requested by the position manager

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Experience in hospitality stock control
  • Expertise in and current knowledge of food hygiene regulations and food safety plans
  • Good interpersonal and customer facing skills, able to empathise, maintain professionalism, display patience and politeness, within a sometimes-pressurised environment
  • Enjoy prepping food, developing recipes and taking pride in presentation
  • Love coffee, developing skills, relationship with customer orders and taking pride in presentation
