About the Company
BlackBull Markets is one of New Zealand’s standout fintech success stories. Founded in Auckland in 2014, it has grown at pace into a multi-regulated, multi-asset broker giving traders in more than 180 countries institutional-grade access to hundreds of markets. It now has offices across Cyprus, Mexico and Dubai, and has placed several times on the Deloitte Fast 50.
Still founder-led, the business has kept its entrepreneurial, agile edge, with strong technology, a commercially driven team and a clear appetite for new markets. It moves quickly and thinks globally, and compliance plays a critical role in its growth plans.
The Role
Reporting to the CEO, with a direct line to the Board and Audit and Risk Committee, the Chief Compliance Officer is the Group’s most senior compliance appointment. You will sit on the Executive Leadership Team as a peer to the CFO and other C-suite leaders.
You will own the compliance framework across every jurisdiction in which BlackBull holds a licence. That means turning differing regulatory regimes into one coherent, defensible Group standard as the business matures and prepares for its next stage. It also means working inside the commercial agenda: shaping new products and markets early and finding the compliant route to the outcome.
This is an office-based role in Auckland.
Key Responsibilities
- Set the Group compliance strategy and framework across all jurisdictions
- Partner with the executive team on new products, markets and initiatives, finding the compliant route to the commercial outcome
- Hold senior accountability for regulatory licences across New Zealand, Seychelles and future markets
- Act as primary relationship holder with the FMA, the Seychelles FSA and other regulators, leading inspections, audits and licence variations
- Act as designated AML/CFT Compliance Officer, with ultimate accountability for the Group AML/CFT programme
- Report on compliance to the Board, the Audit and Risk Committee and the executive team
- Approve Group compliance policies, adapted for local law where required
- Oversee controls testing, regulatory change, conduct, marketing compliance and breach governance
- Lead, develop and grow the compliance team, starting with a Compliance Manager in Auckland
Key Skills & Experience Required
- 12+ years in compliance, legal or regulatory roles within OTC derivatives, CFDs, FX or broader financial markets, including at least 5 years leading a compliance function
- Proven track record leading compliance for a multi-entity or multi-licence group, including a CO, MLRO or equivalent regulated role
- Strong working knowledge of AML/CFT and conduct obligations across several regimes, such as New Zealand, Seychelles, ASIC or CySEC
- Direct regulator engagement, including licence applications, inspections and audits
- Experience as part of an executive team, credible at Board level
- Commercially minded and solutions-focused. You build trust with sales, marketing and operations and hold the line when it matters
- Experience in a fast-moving trading environment is ideal
- Tertiary qualification in law, finance, risk or a related discipline; ICA or ACAMS certification highly regarded
What’s In It For You
