We’re looking for an experienced Data Product Owner to join our People Systems & Analytics team. This is a data-focused Product Owner role where you’ll own and mature People data products across their full lifecycle, establish strong governance and accountability, and shape a clear roadmap for capability uplift.
If you bring strong data product ownership experience, understand data domains, governance and ownership, and can influence senior leaders across a complex organisation, we’d love to hear from you. Experience in HR or People is not essential.
Mō te tūranga | About the role
Reporting to the Head of People Systems & Analytics, you’ll connect business, technology, analytics, governance, privacy and risk stakeholders to ensure People data products are trusted, secure, reusable and fit for purpose. You’ll represent the People domain in enterprise forums, influence strategic direction and turn business needs into clear data product priorities and outcomes.
Your Key Responsibilities Will Include
- Defining and maintaining the People data product strategy, roadmap and priorities.
- Managing the end-to-end lifecycle of People data products, from inception through to retirement.
- Establishing clear data ownership, stewardship, governance, access management and lifecycle controls.
- Driving ASB’s Federated Data Ownership model across the People domain, with clear accountability and decision rights.
- Improving and monitoring data quality, integrity, lineage, observability and risk positions across priority People data domains.
- Identifying and delivering initiatives that reduce data, privacy and regulatory risk and align with enterprise frameworks.
- Partnering with Technology, Enterprise Data & Analytics and delivery teams to support data modernisation and future platform readiness.
- Influencing senior leaders and representing the People domain in enterprise data, governance, privacy, architecture and risk forums.
- Leading specialist data capability and delivery partners to deliver the roadmap and continuously uplift People data maturity.

We’re looking for a commercially minded data leader who can balance business value, internal customer needs and governance requirements while creating momentum across a complex enterprise environment.
You’ll Ideally Bring
- Strong experience defining, owning and improving data products across their lifecycle.
- Deep knowledge of data governance, data domains, data ownership, stewardship and data quality practices.
- Experience establishing operating models, roadmaps, controls and clear decision rights for enterprise data.
- The ability to influence senior leaders and align stakeholders across business, technology, risk and data teams.
- Strong strategic thinking, prioritisation and delivery capability.
- Experience navigating privacy, security, information management and regulatory obligations.
- A strong data background and enterprise stakeholder management experience; People or HR experience is not essential.
- Leadership experience with specialist resources, delivery partners or cross-functional teams.
