An opportunity has arisen for a Contract Supervisor to join our Resource Recovery team, with responsibility for overseeing our kerbside collection services across Christchurch and Banks Peninsula.

The Resource Recovery team is responsible for developing, implementing and managing waste management contracts and projects across Christchurch and Banks Peninsula. Our work supports the delivery of reliable, efficient services to our communities while helping Council achieve its resource recovery and waste minimisation goals.
As part of the team, you’ll contribute to effective contract and project management, with a focus on delivering value for money, maintaining strong service standards and supporting Council policies and targets for waste minimisation and resource recovery.

The key focus of this role is to ensure our kerbside collection services are delivered efficiently, effectively and in accordance with agreed service standards. You will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the kerbside collection contract, ensuring agreed levels of service (LOS), key performance indicators (KPIs) and other contractual requirements are consistently met.
You Will Achieve This By
- Building and maintaining effective relationships with our contractor, internal teams and key stakeholders.
- Monitoring contractor performance and ensuring operational and contractual obligations are met.
- Providing practical and technical advice to internal and external customers and contractors.
- Managing contract expenditure effectively and ensuring Council receives value for money.
- Undertaking regular contractor performance, quality and compliance audits, and following up on identified issues.
- Identifying service issues and opportunities for improvement and working collaboratively with the contractor to achieve positive outcomes.

You will be highly organised, able to think logically and confidently manage relationships with a wide range of people. You will be comfortable working in a fast-paced operational environment, balancing competing priorities while maintaining a strong focus on service delivery, safety and value for money.

You Will Also Bring
- A relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent experience in contract supervision, asset management, waste management or a related field.
- Relevant experience within the waste, environmental services or a similar operational service-delivery environment.
- Demonstrated contract management experience, including monitoring contractor performance, undertaking audits and ensuring contractual and operational requirements are met.
- Strong relationship-management and communication skills, with the ability to work constructively with contractors, colleagues, customers and other stakeholders.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the confidence to identify issues, investigate causes and work through practical solutions.
- A high level of computer literacy, particularly in Microsoft Office applications and other business systems used for contract and performance management.

Hours of work - 37.5 - 40 hours per week
Position – Permanent Full-Time
Location - This position is primarily based at Te Hononga, Christchurch City Council Civic Offices - 53 Hereford Street
Salary - The salary band for this position goes from $96,465 to $107,183 per annum based on a 40-hour week. Starting salaries will be based on knowledge, skills and experience the successful candidate brings to the role, and relativities both, within the immediate team and in the broader organisation for the same or similar roles.
