Health & Safety Advisor

The Lines Company

Remote

This is a practical, varied role. You’ll work across our safety systems, data and field activity, helping our people do great work safely. You’ll also help put Safety Differently into practice — our shift from asking “who failed?” to “what made this make sense?” Bring the right attitude and we’ll back you to grow.

Mō Mātou — About Us

At The Lines Company (TLC), we’ve been powering the King Country for over 100 years. As a community-owned electricity distribution company, everything we do comes back to people — our customers, our communities, and our team. We’re a People First business with a bold ambition: to be among the top 10% of New Zealand workplaces for engagement by 2029.

Here’s why safety sits at the heart of that. Our people telling us their manager takes their safety suggestions seriously is the single biggest driver of engagement we have. Safety and great work aren’t a trade-off. Great work is safe work — and this role helps us keep that true.

Mō te tūranga — The Role

You’ll help make Safety Differently real — in our systems, in our data and out in the field.

We know the work that needs doing. How the role is shaped will depend on who you are and what you bring. Reporting to the GM People & Safety in a flat, deliberate team, you could:

  • Look after our safety systems — Assura, Kotahi and our registers — so they’re accurate, easy to use and aligned to AERO
  • Turn safety data into insight — dashboards, trends and reporting that help our leaders make better decisions
  • Get into the field alongside our crews — understanding work-as-done and checking our direct controls work where the work happens
  • Help teams learn from events — supporting learning reviews and making sure actions fix things, not just close them
  • Coach and support people across the business to use our systems and tools well

You’ll work alongside our Field, Training & Engagement Advisor and the wider team, with support from our partners at Fisher Improvement Technologies. We’ll back you with training and development — including in the AERO methodology.

Mōu — About You

We care more about who you are than a checklist of qualifications. You’re curious, credible and constructive. You like getting things right, you’re comfortable with people at every level, and you want to be part of a team that’s building something.

You’ll bring:

  • A positive attitude and a real interest in keeping people safe and well
  • Some experience in health and safety — or a strong background in a related area such as operations, trades, quality, data or systems
  • Confidence with technology and a willingness to learn new systems
  • Comfort in a field environment and getting out among our crews
  • Good communication — you build trust and can have honest conversations
  • Care and accuracy in your work
  • The honesty to say it as it is, even when it’s uncomfortable

Above all, you’re a team player who wants to learn and grow. If you don’t tick every box but this sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you.

He Aha Te Pai — What you’ll love about us!

At TLC, we’re about more than keeping the power on — we care deeply about our people, customers, and community.

You’ll join a supportive, collaborative team where your work has real impact, and a leadership team that goes first — we model what we ask of the business. Safety Differently only works when our systems tell the truth and we understand how work is really done. This role is central to both.

Alongside a competitive salary, we offer:

  • Medical and Life Insurance plus Annual Health Screenings
  • Lifestyle Leave Days and a Volunteer Day
  • Paid Parental Leave for primary and secondary caregivers
  • Annual Wellbeing Payment
  • Staff Community Fund
  • Development and career growth opportunities
  • Additional employer KiwiSaver contribution after three years
  • Staff deals and discounts

Join a community-owned company that packs a big punch — making a real difference in the energy sector and the communities we serve.
