Director of Finance

CartonCloud

Remote

Department: Corporate- Finance

Location: Remote New Zealand

Description

  • Remote: Australian (AEST timezone) or New Zealand
  • Lead finance for a scaling B2B SaaS business heading into its next capital phase
  • Executive team seat. Report to the CEO, answer to the Board

CartonCloud builds warehouse and transport management software for third-party logistics providers. More than 600 customers across Australia, New Zealand and North America run their operations on our platform. We are remote-first, and we have grown from one warehouse’s problem into software that changes how an industry works.

The Opportunity

This is a new role on our Executive Team, created to support the growth and evolution of our finance function. We now run entities in Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the United States, and a Board that takes a close interest in the numbers. The next phase needs a finance leader who owns both the forward view and the foundations underneath it.

You will own strategic finance: financial planning and analysis, the group model, the SaaS metrics suite, scenario and downside planning, treasury and financing strategy, investor-grade reporting and data-room readiness. You will bring the economics to commercial decisions with our CEO and sales leaders: unit economics, cost to serve, and the modelling behind pricing and deal calls.

You will also own controllership. Our Financial Controller is on extended leave for much of your first year, so month-end close, statutory reporting, external audit and multi-jurisdiction tax sit with you directly during that period. This is a working leadership role in a small team. If you want to set direction and never look at a reconciliation again, this is not the role. If you want the scope of a finance leader in a business still small enough that you know where every number comes from, it is.

We are actively building AI and automation into how the business runs. You will lead the finance technology stack and the automation agenda, scaling the function through better systems rather than headcount. For the right person there is a clear path to broaden into investor relations and capital strategy, M&A and diligence, and a CFO title.

What You’ll Own

  • Financial planning and analysis for the group: the financial model, forecasting methodology and accuracy, the SaaS metrics suite, and scenario, stretch and downside planning.
  • The annual budget end to end, and department-level budget ownership, accrual discipline and cost discipline across every function.
  • Board and management reporting: the Board financial pack, presenting the financial update, and answering directors' questions directly.
  • Cash, treasury and covenants: the cash-flow forecast, drawdown and repayment planning, covenant monitoring and headroom, and FX exposure.
  • Capital-markets and diligence readiness: investor-grade reporting, data-room build and maintenance.
  • Controllership: month-end close, statutory reporting, external audit and multi-jurisdiction tax across the group.
  • The finance technology stack and the automation agenda.
  • Internal control and risk management: diligent-ready control documentation, insurance program, risk register oversight, and possible involvement in Global Risk and Compliance responsibility, depending on prior experience.

What we're looking for

We are more interested in what you have personally owned than in years or titles.

  • An FP&A-led finance leader. You have owned a budget and forecast end to end, not reviewed one, and you can talk through the model you built, what drove the numbers, and how you worked through scenarios.
  • Recent, hands-on controllership. Month-end close, statutory reporting, audit and tax that you executed yourself.
  • Multi-entity and multi-jurisdiction experience, including operating under investor and financing covenants.
  • Comfortable presenting to a Board and answering directors' questions directly.
  • CA, CPA or equivalent.
  • Someone who wants to own and improve a function, rather than maintain one, and is happy doing the work in a small team.
  • Valued but not required: a capital raise, sale or diligence process you supported from inside the business; B2B SaaS experience and fluency in SaaS metrics; finance automation you designed and shipped yourself; pricing and unit economics work; enterprise risk and governance exposure.

Our Process

To ensure every application is reviewed fairly and quickly, we use AI to assist with early resume screening and interview stages. All decisions are made by our people, and the process quickly transitions to interviews focused on genuine connection.

What's in it for You

  • A competitive base salary benchmarked against Australian and New Zealand software market data at Director level, plus superannuation or KiwiSaver, and participation in the executive incentive plan.
  • A remote-first and flexible work environment.
  • Back2Base: we bring the whole company together in person, because remote-first should not mean never meeting.
  • Paid parental leave, home office setup support, and a wellness allowance.
  • A CEO who has been doing this work himself and will make room for the person who takes it on.
  • A seat at the table at the point in a company’s life when finance decisions genuinely change the outcome.
