About the Mahi (Role)

Grow your health and safety career with hands-on mentoring and the opportunity to make a real difference across TBI Health.

Working alongside our National Manager of Network Performance and Risk, you’ll help keep our people, clinics and services safe while supporting teams to build a positive and proactive health and safety culture.

This is a varied role where you’ll get out and about across our clinics and services, work with people at all levels, and turn health and safety requirements into practical actions that make a difference.

In this role, you’ll:

  • Get out and about – complete health and safety inspections and audits across our clinics and services, identifying risks and following up actions through to completion.
  • Follow up incidents – support the reporting, triage and investigation of accidents, incidents and near misses, helping turn what we learn into meaningful improvements.
  • Keep risk on track – maintain our health and safety risk register, support risk assessments and help teams put practical controls in place.
  • Support emergency readiness – help maintain emergency response plans and coordinate testing, training and preparedness activities.
  • Make safety part of everyday conversations – support managers and teams with health and safety advice, training and practical guidance.
  • Keep our systems sharp – maintain health and safety records, reporting and systems, including audit, incident and improvement activities.
  • Support our Health, Safety and Wellbeing Committee – coordinate meetings, actions, training and records.
  • Champion wellbeing – support initiatives that contribute to a safe, healthy and positive workplace.
  • Keep learning – stay up to date with New Zealand health and safety requirements and build your knowledge and capability with support and mentoring from an experienced National Manager.

This is a 32-hour-per-week, Monday to Friday role, with a preference for someone who is available during the morning, ideally around 8.30am to 1.30pm.

The successful candidate will be based in Wellington and will be expected to work from our Head Office twice a week. Some travel to TBI Health clinics and services will also be required, so you’ll need to be comfortable getting out and about as part of your work.

About You

You will bring energy, curiosity and a genuine interest in keeping people safe to the role. You’ll have a solid foundation in health and safety and be keen to continue developing your knowledge and expertise, with the support and mentoring available at TBI Health.

You will bring to the role:

  • Experience in health and safety, quality, compliance or a similar role, or be a relevant graduate ready to step into the field.
  • A qualification in health and safety or a related field or be currently studying towards one.
  • Experience or exposure to incident management, audits, risk assessments or risk registers.
  • A working knowledge of New Zealand health and safety legislation, including the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015.
  • Strong communication skills and confidence engaging with people at all levels.
  • Good organisation and attention to detail, with the ability to manage competing priorities and follow things through.
  • The ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Sound judgement and a practical approach to problem solving, including knowing when to seek advice or escalate.
  • Confidence using digital systems, data and reporting tools.
  • A willingness to get out and about across our clinics and services, with the ability to travel as required.

What you'll get

  • Real mentoring and development – build your health, safety and risk expertise with support from an experienced National Manager.
  • Meaningful work – help make a difference to the safety and wellbeing of people across our clinics and services.
