Glasshouse Technician

For over 125 years, T&G Fresh has nourished generations of Kiwis with fresh fruit and vegetables. We grow, pack, market, sell, distribute, import and export fresh produce from our own orchards and farms, as well as from over 700 Kiwi growers.

We are New Zealand's largest producer and packer of hothouse tomatoes. These crops are grown in state-of-the-art, environmentally controlled glasshouses, across our four North Island sites, and are packaged for both local and export markets all-year round.

About The Opportunity

We are looking for someone who is passionate about horticulture, eager to learn, and enjoys being part of a hands-on team to join our Tomato Glasshouse team based in Tuakau.

This is a full-time, permanent position, working Monday to Friday from 12:00 pm to 8:30 pm. The role also includes weekend duty on a rotating basis, with each team member typically working one weekend day every 2–3 weeks. Some flexibility to work evenings may also be required to meet business needs. Rosters will be provided at least one week in advance.

Key responsibilities include;

• Pest and disease control including spraying, following spray recipes to prepare the spray
• Ensuring all spraying equipment is maintained and cleaned
• Monitor beneficial insects and bee hives
• General upkeep of keeping the glasshouse tidy
• Undertake monthly stock takes and also manage any purchasing requirements
• Monitor water levels, pH and general glasshouse conditions.
• Complete stocktakes, manage supplies and receipt incoming goods.
• Operating a forkhoist and ensure team members are adhering to correct procedures when operating a forkhoist
• Maintain a safe, clean workplace and follow all Health & Safety procedures.

This is a busy role encompassing other related duties, so a flexibility and a good attitude is what we need!

About You

You will have a keen interest in Horticulture and assist the Grower Manager with the day to day running of the site. Being flexible to adapt to the job requirements and hours of work is key, and have a positive attitude with the eagerness to roll up your sleeves and get stuck in. You could be a landscaper, farm worker or have worked in a horticulture role previously.

You Will Have The Following Attributes And Skills

• A tertiary qualification in Horticulture (preferred) or relevant experience or keen desire to learn - We are open to training the right candidate who brings passion and curiosity
• Full Driver's license (essential)
• Exposure to Integrated Pest Management (IPM) process and spray experience (Desirable)
• An F endorsed forkhoist license with OSH certificate (preferred)
• Proficiency in using computer and iPad
• Communication and comprehension skills
• Ability to follow safety frameworks and company standards
