Chapter Lead – Infrastructure Services Platform

We're looking for an experienced people leader to join the Infrastructure Chapter Leadership team and help shape the chapter's direction, capability and success. You'll also have direct responsibility for the ServiceNow squad within the Infrastructure Services Platform, developing talented engineers, building a high-performing team and delivering meaningful outcomes across ASB.

About The Team

The ServiceNow squad is responsible for managing ServiceNow, supporting critical technology and operational services across the bank, supporting IT Service Management, IT Operations, CMDB, HR Operations and emerging cloud service capabilities. It's a highly visible environment where reliability, scalability and continuous improvement matter.

The Infrastructure Chapter brings together engineers who build and run the foundational services that enable ASB's technology teams. The chapter spans multiple infrastructure capabilities and plays an important role in reliability, resilience, automation and the experience of teams across the bank.

About The Role

This is first and foremost a people leadership role with responsibility at both the squad and chapter level. For the ServiceNow squad, you'll lead, coach and develop engineers, helping individuals grow their skills, confidence and careers while building a high-performing and inclusive team culture. You'll set clear expectations, support wellbeing and engagement, recognise performance and address issues constructively.

You’ll also form part of the Infrastructure Chapter Leadership team, sharing ownership for its direction and success. Together, you'll translate strategy into clear capability and workforce priorities, create consistency across squads, strengthen collaboration and promote strong engineering and people practices.

Key Responsibilities

• Directly lead, coach and develop the engineers in the ServiceNow squad through regular feedback, career conversations and meaningful development plans
• Build an inclusive, high-performing squad culture grounded in trust, accountability, learning and continuous improvement
• Create clarity on expectations, priorities and how the ServiceNow squad's work contributes to Infrastructure Services outcomes
• Partner with the ServiceNow Product Owner and Infrastructure Services Platform Lead to align people, capability and delivery outcomes
• Share leadership of the Infrastructure Services Chapter with the other Chapter Leads and the Head of Engineering
• Collectively shape chapter direction, workforce plans, capability priorities and consistent ways of working across Infrastructure Services
• Attract, retain and grow engineering talent, including supporting recruitment, onboarding and succession planning
• Recognise strong performance, support wellbeing and engagement, and address performance concerns fairly and constructively
• Strengthen collaboration and knowledge sharing across Infrastructure Services squads, platforms and technology teams
• Champion consistent engineering practices, operational excellence, resilience and sustainable delivery across the chapter
• Provide sufficient technical leadership and context to support good decisions, while empowering engineers and specialists to lead the detail

About You

You're an experienced and people-first leader who has built strong engineering teams in complex environments. You know how to create trust and clarity, have honest conversations, coach different leadership and experience levels, and help people perform and grow.

You'll be comfortable leading beyond your immediate team and contributing to the direction and health of a broader chapter. You bring strong judgement, empathy and follow-through, and can balance individual needs with chapter priorities, delivery commitments and the demands of a regulated environment.

Key Skills & Experience

• Demonstrated experience leading, coaching and developing engineering teams, including career development, performance conversations and succession planning
• A track record of building inclusive, engaged and high-performing team cultures
• Experience leading through change and bringing people with you through clear communication and strong relationships
• Ability to lead across organisational boundaries and contribute to chapter or platform-wide strategy and priorities
• Experience with workforce and capability planning, recruitment and talent development
• Strong stakeholder engagement, influencing and cross-functional leadership skills
• Sound technology and infrastructure understanding, with the credibility to support engineering decisions without needing to be the deepest technical specialist
• Experience establishing or championing consistent engineering practices, governance and continuous improvement
• Experience operating within highly regulated or complex enterprise environments

Nice To Have

• Experience leading people in infrastructure, platform or enterprise technology environments
• Familiarity with ServiceNow or comparable enterprise service management platforms
• Exposure to cloud services, automation and modern infrastructure engineering practices
• Awareness of emerging AI and Generative AI technologies and how they can improve engineering productivity and customer outcomes
