We are looking for an experienced Performance and Reward Consultant to join our People team on an 18-month fixed-term basis. With some interesting performance and reward initiatives underway at ASB, this opportunity has been created to provide additional specialist support to the Performance and Reward team. You’ll provide specialist advice, deliver key initiatives, and help ensure our remuneration, benefits, recognition and performance practices continue to support employee engagement, attraction and retention.

This is an opportunity to work across the People team and wider business, combining strategic thinking, technical expertise and detailed analysis to deliver practical, high-quality performance and reward outcomes.

Mō te tūranga | About the role

As a Performance and Reward Consultant, you’ll partner with leaders and the wider People team to design, implement and continuously improve performance, remuneration and reward frameworks that support our people and business objectives.

Reporting to the Head of Performance and Reward, you’ll provide expert consulting and advice across all elements of performance and reward. You’ll help ensure ASB maintains effective and modern performance, benefits and recognition frameworks that are informed by market trends, regulatory requirements and best practice.

Success in this role will rely on your ability to build trusted relationships across the organisation, provide clear and commercially considered advice, and confidently navigate complex performance and reward matters. You’ll work collaboratively across the People team to support a seamless employee experience across recruitment, remuneration reviews and promotions.

Key Accountabilities

In this role, you will:

  • Provide expert consulting and advice to leaders and the People team across all elements of performance and reward.
  • Partner with the Head of Performance and Reward to maintain and continuously improve ASB’s performance, benefits and recognition frameworks.
  • Support the planning and delivery of the annual performance and remuneration review process.
  • Use data, insights and external market trends to develop recommendations and inform decision-making.
  • Lead and contribute to strategic performance and reward projects, delivering quality outcomes within agreed timeframes.
  • Prepare high-quality reports, papers, analysis and presentations for senior leadership, Board and Remuneration Committee meetings.
  • Support ASB’s reward governance, regulatory and disclosure requirements.
  • Proactively identify and manage remuneration and benefits-related risks, issues and incidents.
  • Provide a responsive and high-quality service to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Work collaboratively across the People team to support a consistent and seamless employee experience.
  • Monitor developments in performance, remuneration and benefits practices and recommend opportunities to strengthen ASB’s approach.

This opportunity will suit an experienced performance and reward professional who can confidently work across strategic priorities, technical detail and hands-on delivery. You’ll be comfortable working with ambiguity, solving complex problems and translating detailed information into clear insights and practical recommendations.

We’re Looking For Someone With

  • Strong knowledge of remuneration and benefits best practice and relevant regulatory requirements, ideally gained within financial services or another regulated environment.
  • Demonstrated understanding of how performance and reward frameworks shape culture, influence behaviour, and drive organisational outcomes.
  • Experience in job architecture, job evaluation and reward benchmarking.
  • Strong analytical capability, with the ability to synthesise and critically analyse large or complex datasets and information.
  • Experience producing high-quality reports that combine quantitative and qualitative analysis with clear recommendations.
  • Strong communication, consulting and influencing skills.
  • The ability to build trusted relationships with stakeholders at all levels of an organisation.
  • Experience working with HRIS platforms and supporting the implementation of new systems, processes or procedures.
  • The ability to navigate ambiguity and develop practical solutions to complex problems.
  • A strong customer service focus and the ability to deliver accurately within deadlines.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • A proactive, self-starting approach and a strong continuous improvement mindset.
  • Experience embedding operational excellence across systems, processes and ways of working.
