Asset Manager - On-Road & Infrastructure

RealNZ

Remote

Being Real means looking after the places people travel across the world to see

At RealNZ, our roads, trails, jetties, and infrastructure aren't just assets on a register, they're the connective tissue between our manuhiri (guests) and some of the most remote and precious landscapes in Aotearoa. From the road into Milford Sound to the infrastructure supporting Doubtful Sound, Walter Peak, and Rakiura, what you manage is the difference between a good day and an unforgettable one for thousands of people every year.

We're looking for an experienced Asset Manager to take ownership of our On-Road and Infrastructure portfolios, someone who sees asset management as more than compliance and cost control, and understands it as kaitiakitanga in practice: protecting what we've been entrusted with, for the people who rely on it today and the generations who'll rely on it tomorrow.

This role is based in Te Anau, the gateway to Fiordland National Park, and honestly one of the best-kept secrets in the South. It's a small town with all the essentials, and none of the traffic, queues, or big-city bustle. Trade the commute for a five-minute drive to work and a backyard that includes some of the most spectacular fiords, lakes, and hiking trails on the planet.

If you love the outdoors, Te Anau puts it all on your doorstep! Tramping, fishing, kayaking, hunting, and boating, all within easy reach. It's also a genuinely great place to raise a family: a tight-knit community, a strong local school, and the kind of pace of life that lets you actually switch off at the end of the day.

What You'll Be Responsible For

You'll own the oversight and management of our On-Road and Infrastructure asset portfolios end to end - maintenance, improvement, and the resolution of operational issues, all delivered safely, efficiently, within budget, and in line with statutory obligations and industry best practice.

This is a role built on relationships as much as technical rigour. Internally, you'll work closely with our Chief of Experiences, General Managers, and Experience Managers to make sure our assets are fit for purpose and ready to meet operational demand, aligned with where the business is heading strategically. Externally, you'll be the face of RealNZ to contractors, authorities, and industry associations who help you keep these portfolios running.

Day To Day, That Looks Like

  • Leading planned and condition-based maintenance programmes across a large, complex asset base
  • Owning your portfolio's budgets, from annual planning through to five-year repair and maintenance forecasting, and total-cost-of-ownership input on major capital projects
  • Running asset management projects from business case through to delivery -resourced, scoped, and reported properly
  • Championing a genuine safety culture across your team and contractors, in line with the Health & Safety at Work Act 2015
  • Mentoring and developing your team, including oversight of apprentices and technicians, and building your own development plan alongside theirs
  • Being ready to respond when the unexpected happens; this role occasionally calls for out-of-hours support and time working from our remote sites

Who We're Looking For

  • 10+ years' experience in asset management, ideally across a complex, asset-intensive environment
  • A track record in maintenance planning at scale
  • Experience managing or supporting an EAM system (Maximo, SAP, or similar)
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills - you'll be trusted by people across the business and beyond it
  • A practical, hands-on mindset with a genuine focus on continuous improvement
  • Solid project management experience
  • A real investment in conservation and protecting the natural environments and heritage we operate within
  • A commitment to a fair, equal, diverse, and inclusive workplace

What's In It For You

  • Incredible staff perks! Bring a friend along to experience RealNZ's adventures for free or at a fantastic discount. Explore the Glowworm Caves in Te Anau, cruise Milford Sound, dine at Walter Peak, and discover Rakiura
  • A free ski pass for Cardrona and Treble Cone
  • Medical insurance included in your remuneration package

Come and help us look after the places that matter. Nau mai, haere mai.
