Waipā is one of New Zealand's fastest-growing districts, and we're looking for an experienced Senior Development Engineer to help shape how our communities grow.
We're also recruiting for a Development Engineer at the same time. Both roles sit within our Development Engineering team, with this senior position providing greater technical leadership, mentoring and responsibility across complex development projects.

Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role
As a Senior Development Engineer, you'll provide technical expertise across subdivision and land use projects, with a focus on complex consents, infrastructure planning, water services, roading and asset management.
You'll have the autonomy to assess and influence development proposals, provide trusted technical advice and help resolve complex engineering issues. You'll also mentor Development Engineers and contribute to building technical capability across the team.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing technical advice on complex subdivision, land use and infrastructure projects.
- Assessing development applications and recommending engineering requirements and consent conditions.
- Reviewing engineering designs and supporting s223 and s224 certification.
- Providing advice on three water services, roading, infrastructure planning and asset management.
- Working with developers, consultants, contractors and internal teams to resolve complex issues.
- Supporting pre-application meetings, hearings and other technical processes as required.
- Mentoring and developing Development Engineers.
- Contributing to improvements in Council processes, standards, quality assurance and bylaws.
Ko wai koe | About you
You're an experienced civil or development engineer who enjoys solving complex problems and working with people. You bring strong technical judgement, sound communication skills and the confidence to influence outcomes across a range of stakeholders.
You'll bring:
- Strong experience in development or civil engineering.
- A relevant engineering qualification, ideally a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) or equivalent.
- Strong knowledge of subdivision and land development, infrastructure, roading and water services.
- Excellent technical, communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience mentoring or supporting other engineers.
- Strong organisation and time management skills.
- A collaborative, practical and solutions-focused approach.
Previous local government experience would be highly desirable.
