Our Financial Crime Operations teams play a critical role in protecting our customers, communities and the Bank from financial crime by identifying, investigating and mitigating money laundering, terrorism financing, sanctions breaches and other financial crime risks. The Transaction Monitoring team sits at the heart of this work, helping ensure ASB meets its obligations under the AML/CFT Act and broader regulatory requirements.

We're looking for an experienced Senior FCI Analyst to join our Transaction Monitoring team. This is an opportunity to bring your investigation mindset and financial crime expertise to complex alerts, high-risk activity and regulatory obligations, while playing a visible senior role in coaching others, supporting capability uplift and helping drive continuous improvement across the team.

Mō te Tūranga | About the Role

As a Senior FCI Analyst, you'll play a key role in the detection, monitoring, assessment, investigation and remediation of financial crime risk. Working across a broad range of complex and high-risk matters, you'll make quality risk-based decisions, contribute to Transaction Monitoring alerts, provide subject matter expertise to stakeholders and colleagues, and help strengthen ASB's overall financial crime risk posture.

Key Responsibilities Include

  • Managing complex financial crime investigations, alerts, exceptions and cases across Transaction Monitoring, sanctions and high-risk customer activity, including matters requiring sound judgement and an investigative approach
  • Assessing and investigating unusual or suspicious customer activity to ensure compliance with AML/CFT legislation, sanctions obligations and internal policies
  • Identifying, escalating and assisting with the remediation of financial crime, operational and reputational risks
  • Reporting suspicious activity to the New Zealand Police Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) where required
  • Providing subject matter expertise, guidance, coaching and support to colleagues and stakeholders, including helping lift capability across the wider team
  • Supporting training, knowledge sharing and continuous improvement activity to strengthen quality, consistency and team performance
  • Analysing and interrogating data from multiple sources to support investigations and decision making
  • Building strong relationships across the Bank to support effective risk management and customer outcomes
  • Leading projects, process reviews and continuous improvement initiatives that enhance efficiency, accuracy and compliance
  • Supporting a strong risk culture through quality decision-making, proactive risk identification and effective escalation practices
  • Maintaining a strong understanding of regulatory requirements, emerging financial crime trends and internal policies.

This role offers the opportunity to work on some of ASB's most complex financial crime matters while developing deep expertise across Transaction Monitoring and Financial Crime Operations.

Ō Pūmanawa | About You

You'll be an experienced financial crime professional with strong analytical capability, excellent judgement and a genuine passion for protecting customers and preventing financial crime. You may already be a SME in the financial crime / AML sector or looking to transfer your extensive investigative skills and experience to this area.

  • Proven experience within Financial Crime, AML/CFT, Transaction Monitoring, Sanctions, High-Risk Customer management or a comparable investigations environment
  • A strong understanding of New Zealand's AML/CFT regulatory environment and financial crime obligations
  • Excellent analytical and investigative skills with the ability to assess complex information and make sound decisions
  • An investigation mindset, with the ability to understand crime typologies, identify patterns and apply sound judgement to complex customer activity
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to engage confidently with stakeholders and customers
  • Confidence coaching others, sharing knowledge and supporting training or capability uplift within a team environment
  • The ability to work well under pressure, manage competing priorities and adapt to changing business needs
  • A proactive approach to problem solving and continuous improvement
  • Strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to build collaborative relationships across the organisation
  • Exposure to SQL or similar data analytics tools (advantageous)
