Mō te tūnga | About the role

Working in forensic rehabilitation requires you to remain calm under pressure, demonstrate resilience, use sound judgement, and build trust with people from a wide range of backgrounds.

At IDEA Services, you'll support people with intellectual disabilities who have had involvement with the justice system to develop new skills, reduce offending behaviour, and reintegrate safely into their communities. We're looking for Support Workers with the strength of character, patience, and commitment to support people through their rehabilitation journey. This role is ideal for people who thrive in active environments, can maintain professional boundaries, and are confident navigating challenging situations while remaining respectful, professional, and solution-focused.

A key part of the role involves maintaining safety, monitoring behaviour, and responding effectively to challenging situations. Through positive behaviour support and a consistent approach, you'll help create an environment where people can learn, grow, and achieve meaningful goals.

Ngā pūmanawatanga ōu | What you will bring

Previous experience is preferred, but more importantly, we are looking for someone with some life experience and the right attitude. People from backgrounds such as security, corrections, defence, youth work, coaching, community leadership, trades, or disability, addictions and mental health support are encouraged to apply.

  • Can confidently manage challenging situations
  • The ability to build strong, trusting relationships and coach people through change
  • Resilience, awareness, and a strong focus on safety
  • An open-minded, non-judgmental approach when working with diverse individuals
  • Comfortable using computers and tablets as part of daily work
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Has the physical capability to participate in activities and respond when safety concerns arise
  • A full NZ driver’s licence
