We're looking for a Platform Specialist to join our team, playing a key role in keeping our critical Generation and Trading systems running smoothly, 24/7 365 days a year. This is an opportunity for someone who's passionate about technical excellence and getting ahead of issues before they arise, and who thrives in a collaborative, innovative environment where reliability really matters.
While focusing on making sure our systems are stable, observable and ready for the next opportunity you will also need to learn about the business domain and understand how a complex ecosystem of applications, interfaces and data pipelines work together.
This role will be based in Mercury’s Hamilton office.
Mō te tūranga | About the role
- Support and maintain technology platforms that underpin electricity generation and wholesale operations.
- Establish and monitor service health through metrics, logging, tracing, and alerting.
- Support incident response, troubleshooting, recovery, and post-incident reviews.
- Contribute to capacity planning, performance optimisation, disaster recovery, and business continuity.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to build reliability and operability into solutions from the outset
- Foster a “keep it simple” mindset and contribute innovative ideas to problem solving
- Identify opportunities to automate repetitive operational activities to reduce manual effort and human error
- Participating in appropriate on-call or operational support arrangements for critical services.
Tā mātou e kimi nei | We are looking for:
- Strong experience supporting enterprise business systems applications and/or Site Reliability Engineering
- Incident management and troubleshooting — confidence diagnosing complex production issues, restoring service quickly, and contributing to effective post-incident reviews.
- Experience of working with agile software development teams
- Observability and Monitoring (OpenTelemetry, Grafana and Splunk).
- Cloud and platform experience (Primarily Windows and AWS, Linux advantageous)
- Some SQL / relational databases experience: (SQLServer, PostgreSQL)
- Ability to write and maintain scripts (PowerShell, Python)
- Security and operational resilience — disaster recovery, backup, failover and business continuity.
- Strong documentation skills to create and update documentation for L1-L3 support teams
