Tax Accountant

About the Company

Our client is a large, established New Zealand organisation with a complex, multi-entity structure spanning New Zealand and Australia. The finance function is well-resourced and highly regarded, offering genuine variety and technical depth.

The Role

Reporting to the Group Financial Controller, you will manage tax compliance and reporting obligations across New Zealand and Australia, including income tax, GST, FBT, and withholding tax. This is a 6-month fixed-term contract covering maternity leave, with broad exposure to the Deputy CFO, Group CFO, and senior management on tax governance matters.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage tax compliance obligations and reporting across NZ and Australia
• Prepare and coordinate indirect tax returns including GST, FBT, RWT and NRWT
• Coordinate annual income tax returns and provisions with external advisors
• Maintain the Group’s transfer pricing documentation
• Review monthly tax journals for accuracy against jurisdictional rates
• Manage tax fixed asset registers across NZ and Australia
• Prepare tax disclosures and working papers for financial statements
• Report to the Audit Committee and Board on tax governance and process

Key Skills & Experience Required

• CA or CPA qualified, with an accounting or commerce degree
• 5+ years’ experience, CA background with NZ and/or Australian tax exposure preferred
• Strong understanding of tax accounting, including deferred tax
• Confident working in Microsoft Dynamics and Excel
• Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills
• High attention to detail with strong analytical and organisational skills
