Great platform engineering is often invisible to customers, but it's essential to everything they do. Every reliable payment, every seamless deployment and every resilient technology service depends on strong engineering foundations.

We're looking for a Senior Platform Engineer to help build those foundations. This is a hands-on role focused on automation, cloud infrastructure, platform tooling and operational excellence within ASB's Payments technology environment.

You'll join a team on a journey towards greater automation and modernisation. There is significant opportunity to implement new capabilities, improve how infrastructure is managed and help move complex operational processes towards a more scalable, automated future.

About The Team

You'll join Shield Squad, a platform engineering team within ASB's Payments technology function. The team provides the infrastructure, tooling and operational services that support payment platforms across the organisation.

The squad is responsible for areas including cloud infrastructure, container platforms, deployment pipelines, monitoring, observability and operational reliability. As Payments continues to evolve, the team is investing heavily in automation, platform modernisation and cloud capabilities across Azure and AWS environments.

About The Role

This is a hands-on engineering role focused on designing, building and improving platform capabilities. You'll work alongside experienced engineers to deliver automation solutions, improve deployment pipelines and help create a more resilient and efficient technology ecosystem.

A key focus will be enabling infrastructure automation and reducing manual operational effort through modern engineering practices and tooling. You'll contribute directly to platform initiatives that improve reliability, scalability and operational efficiency across Payments.

Key Responsibilities

• Build and maintain Infrastructure as Code solutions using Terraform
• Deliver automation initiatives that improve platform operations and reliability
• Develop and enhance CI/CD pipelines and deployment tooling
• Support cloud infrastructure across Azure and AWS environments
• Work with container platforms and supporting platform technologies
• Improve infrastructure lifecycle management through automation
• Contribute to resilience, monitoring and observability initiatives
• Support incident response and operational improvement activities
• Partner with engineers across the Payments technology function to deliver platform capabilities
• Share knowledge and mentor less experienced engineers where appropriate

About You

You're a hands-on engineer who enjoys building solutions and seeing the impact of your work. You have strong platform engineering foundations, enjoy solving technical problems and are motivated by opportunities to automate, improve and modernise technology environments.

You'll be excited by the opportunity to work across cloud infrastructure, automation, containers and platform tooling while contributing to meaningful engineering outcomes that support critical banking services.

Key Skills & Experience

• Proven experience as a Platform Engineer, DevOps Engineer, Site Reliability Engineer or similar
• Strong hands-on experience with Terraform and Infrastructure as Code
• Experience building automation solutions within cloud or infrastructure environments
• Solid understanding of CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation
• Experience working with Azure cloud services
• Strong scripting and troubleshooting capability
• Experience supporting container-based platforms and modern infrastructure environments
• Knowledge of operational excellence, monitoring and observability practices
• Strong collaboration and problem-solving skills
• Exposure to AWS cloud environments
• Experience with Ansible or infrastructure automation tools
• Experience supporting highly available production environments
• Financial services or regulated industry experience beneficial
