Policy Advisor

We're looking for a Policy Advisor to join our Policy Business Unit in the Strategy, Policy and Regulation function of Rōpū Taiao. This is a permanent position and can be based in either our Wellington or Masterton office.

About the role

As a Policy Advisor, you will use your curiosity and collaborative skills to develop high quality policy advice to implement national direction and achieve environmental outcomes, working creatively with our technical, policy and operational teams to:

• Deliver innovative, authoritative, and practical environmental policy advice across a diverse range of subjects
• Coordinate and support the translation of policy and strategic direction into practical delivery, working closely with internal teams, partners and stakeholders to implement initiatives that achieve on-the-ground environmental outcomes
• Contribute to improved outcomes for mana whenua and Māori
• Increase integration between strategy development, policy, planning and delivery

Skills and experience required

• Knowledge and understanding of resource management, related legislation, and local government planning processes
• Intellectual curiosity and an ability to work in an ambiguous and uncertain environment
• Understanding of tikanga and te ao Māori or a willingness to learn
• Excellent writing skills for a diverse range of audiences
• Excellent communication skills and well-developed interpersonal skills including flexibility, listening skills, influencing and facilitation

The remuneration for this position, inclusive of all benefits, is $84,458 to $126,688, with a midpoint of $105,573. Starting remuneration will depend on the skills and experience of the successful applicant.
