You'll sit at the intersection of data engineering, analytics, and data modelling—working with modern data platforms to transform raw data into high-quality, well-governed datasets used across ASB. This opportunity exists in the Data Product Engineering Squad in the Data & Analytics Platform. You'll play a key role in building and maintaining data products that power our Enterprise Data Warehouse in both our on-premise and cloud data platfroms. ASB operates in the Scaled Agile Framework, and the Data Engineering Chapter supports platforms, projects, and tribes across ASB to ensure that we have the right data, at the right time, reliably to make sound business decisions. Most of our Analytics Engineers sit in the Data & Analytics Platform, and in addition we work across the bank's platforms, tribes, and Analytics & Insights domains with dedicated Analytics Engineers to help achieve their own data engineering ambitions. Mō te Tūranga | About the Role

As an Analytics Engineer, you'll work within a cross-functional squad to design, build, and maintain data products that serve our marketing and customer engagement domains. You'll be guided by senior engineers and chapter leads while progressively taking ownership of your own workstreams.

No two days will be the same – your work will range from building and testing data models, supporting pipeline operations, contributing to our Snowflake migration, and collaborating with analysts and business stakeholders to understand data requirements.

Te mahi | What you’ll be doing

  • Design & Build: Develop and maintain data models and pipelines using modern tools like dbt, Snowflake, and StreamSets. Write clean, well-tested SQL to transform raw data into reliable, analytics-ready datasets.
  • Collaborate & Govern: Work closely with Senior/Staff Engineers, Data Product Owners, and Subject Matter Experts to understand business requirements and ensure products align with ASB's data governance standards.
  • Support & Scale: Monitor and maintain data pipelines across cloud and on-prem environments, assist with incident resolution, and contribute to root cause analysis for data quality issues.
  • Innovate & Contribute: Participate in code reviews, contribute to documentation and testing frameworks, and support the introduction of best practices that uplift the platform's maturity.
  • Learn & Grow: Enjoy dedicated time for training and certification, with guidance and mentorship from Senior/Staff Engineers and Chapter Leads. Build a clear pathway toward Senior Analytics Engineer.

Ō Pūkenga | About You

  • You will bring to the role 2–4 years' data-related experience from within a data-savvy organisation (analytics engineering, data engineering, BI development, or similar).
  • You enjoy working within a team environment, are eager to learn, ask good questions, and can build effective relationships across technical and non-technical stakeholder groups.
  • You will have solid SQL skills, with experience writing complex queries, CTEs, and window functions in Microsoft SQL Server 2016+. You will have working knowledge of at least one ETL/ELT tool such as Wherescape RED, dbt, or StreamSets, and exposure to or eagerness to learn Cloud Data platforms e.g. Snowflake.
  • You will have foundational experience in data modelling and familiarity with dimensional modelling concepts such as Kimball star schema. Exposure to working in a regulated or enterprise environment is advantageous.
  • You keep up to date with industry developments, are committed to continuous learning, and are building your knowledge of data warehouse design techniques like Kimball, Inmon, and/or Data Vault.
