This is one-to-one support for a young person over multiple sessions coaching them in wellbeing and mental health techniques.
It's a coaching - mentoring role.
The techniques include Handling Panic Attacks – ABC, Practicing Mindfulness –Mindfulness Pause, Practicing Acceptance – Riding the Wave, Cognitive Restructuring – Catch, Check, Change, Using Progressive Muscle Relaxation and Calming – Box Breathing & Grounding, Wellbeing techniques cover sleeping, exercise, diet, social relationships, and life purpose/goals.
The coaching will be delivered over live chat, video calls or in-person depending on the preference of the young person.
Full training and ongoing support is provided.

Requirements
PERSONAL SKILLS
Must have good listening and engagement skills with young people.
Able to act professionally
Can show warmth, empathy, unconditional positive regard and a non-judgmental attitude.
Be able to refrain from giving your own opinions or suggestions.
Have some life experience.
Cares about NZ Rangatahi

Training Outline
- Online counselling course approximately 3.5 hours a week for seven weeks.
- Six evening videoconference practice sessions (6:30 to 9pm)

A Police background check is required for this role.
Time Commitment
This is a significant commitment; a weekly appointment plus monthly supervision, for a minimum of two years.
