Community governance teams were established to build stronger relationships and better coordination of council activities at a local level. These teams provide quality advice and support services to their Community Boards as they make decisions and plans that affect life in the local community.

The overarching purpose is to put the community at the centre of local decision making by facilitating citizen and community participation. Providing local community development and recreation projects is also a focus of these teams

About the role | Ko te mahi nei

With responsibility for a community-based ward, you will assist the Council and Community Board with building strong communities and helping to navigate and facilitate clear relationships and communication.

Along with this, you will take on the role of manager, providing leadership to an established and capable team of like-minded and passionate individuals who help the decisions come to life at grass-roots level. Understandably, with such passion in our communities there can also come some frustration, and so we need you to be personable, engaging and solutions focused.

You will be a natural at diffusing any tension that arises at a local level, by providing sound and level-headed advice on decisions, all while keeping a neutral stance.

About you | Ko Koe Tēnei

Experience in governance, with a knowledge of how Local Government or the not-for-profit sector works would be a distinct advantage, however if you are an accomplished leader, you can learn this aspect.

• Hours of work - Fixed Term/Secondment - 2 years
• Position - Fulltime Permanent Position
• Location - This position is primarily based at Te Hononga, Christchurch City Council Civic Offices - 53 Hereford Street
• Salary - The salary band for this position goes from $115,466 - to $128,295 per annum based on a 40 hour week. Starting salaries will be based on knowledge, skills and experience the successful candidate brings to the role, and relativities both, within the immediate team and in the broader organisation for the same or similar roles.
