Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role
We're looking for a someone to take ownership of NZ Post Group's second line legal compliance framework across our multi-entity environment.
Working closely with the Risk, Legal & Regulatory and Company Secretariat teams, you'll play a key role in shaping NZ Post's overall legal compliance programme - how compliance is assessed, reported and embedded, with visibility at senior leadership level and exposure to Board committees.
What You'll Be Doing
Building and evolving the framework
- Leading the development, implementation and continuous improvement of NZ Post's legal compliance programme.
- Monitoring and interpreting relevant legal requirements across the diverse range of NZ Post's activities.
- Ensuring there are appropriate policies and processes that align with current legal obligations and enterprise expectations.
Embedding compliance across the business
- Work with leaders and business units to build their ‘first line' understanding and ownership of compliance obligations.
- Deliver training and guidance to improve legal compliance awareness and capability.
- Act as a trusted advisor on legal compliance matters across the organisation.
- Support leaders and business units to identify, assess and document legal compliance risks.
Risk, assurance and reporting (second line)
- Provide independent second line oversight of legal compliance risk management practices.
- Identify and assess legal compliance risks across business units from a second line perspective.
- Support legal compliance reviews, audits and investigations where required.
- Provide clear, practical reporting and insights to senior leadership and Board Risk Committee, among other groups.
- Review and challenge the effectiveness of risk identification and control frameworks.
- Work with second line risk colleagues to provide coordinated assurance opinions.
Mōu - About You
You're an experienced legal compliance or legal professional who enjoys working at the intersection of law, risk and business strategy.
You'll bring a pragmatic, commercially minded approach, balancing risk and legal compliance practices with real-world business needs to deliver practical, effective outcomes.
You'll Likely Bring
- Experience in legal compliance, regulatory risk or senior legal roles (typically 8+ years including a legal compliance or strong adjacent focus)
- Strong working knowledge of New Zealand legal environments (e.g. Privacy Act, Fair Trading, Commerce Act or similar frameworks)
- Experience building or improving compliance frameworks, programmes or controls
- A pragmatic, solutions-focused mindset—you balance risk with commercial realities
- Confidence engaging with and influencing stakeholders at all levels, including senior leaders
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate legal requirements and risk processes into practical actions
