Our CRC team forms part of our Corporate & Commercial department in our Auckland offices. We are looking for an experienced lawyer with drive and ambition to provide outstanding service to our clients.
This role involves working closely with partners Laura Littlewood and Richard Massey, who provide commercial, regulatory and technology advice across a range of evolving legal frameworks – including AI, data, privacy, consumer law, intellectual property, fair trading, cyber security and ESG. You will also work with the wider Corporate department as a specialist advisor on corporate transactions.
You would collaborate closely with partners known for their expertise and supportive leadership style and as a senior lawyer would play a key role in growing the practice while building your own personal brand in this exciting area of law.
Recent examples of our diverse and exciting work include advising private and public sector clients on:
- technology and digital infrastructure projects, including for New Zealand’s emergency services agencies and New Zealand Schools
- ESG – including environmental marketing and avoiding “Greenwashing” climate-related disclosure, and voluntary modern slavery statements,
- emerging AI legal frameworks, including AI governance, supply contracts, chatbot design and deployment.
- consumer law compliance including marketing campaigns for new product launches.
- lenders and FinTech clients on financial services regulatory reforms and Open Banking
- ownership and commercialisation of intellectual property
- managing data breaches and advising on related cyber security and privacy issues
- advising on a range of evolving technologies including connected cars, biometrics, esports and gaming, next generation aircraft and assisting on regulatory workstreams for significant mergers and acquisitions.
About you
We would welcome applications from any candidates with:
- 6 or more years PQE, including private practice and/or in-house.
- Good experience advising on regulatory law (including a good understanding of consumer law and/or privacy).
- Experience of reviewing and drafting commercial contracts.
- Strong technical legal skills, including drafting and problem-solving.
- Track record of handling complex legal issues and delivering high-quality targeted legal advice.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- An initiative-taking and innovative approach to legal challenges.
- A willingness to mentor and develop junior lawyers, to contribute to a collaborative and high performing team culture.
- Right to work in New Zealand.
