Finance Project Manager
Archway Recruitment
This is a great opportunity to join a respected national not-for-profit organisation as they undertake a significant finance transformation programme. The organisation is moving to a new finance management system, redesigning its Chart of Accounts, and improving key finance processes, controls and reporting.
This fixed-term project role will lead the delivery of the programme from a Project Management perspective, ensuring workstreams are well planned, coordinated and delivered through to go-live and transition into business as usual.
The role is expected to average approximately 20 hours per week, with some flexibility required during key project phases such as solution design, testing, training and go-live. The role is based in Wellington, with flexible location options considered.
About The Role
Reporting to the Head of Finance and Business Services and working closely with the Project Steering Committee, this role will take ownership of the project plan, governance rhythm, risk management and delivery coordination across the finance transformation programme.
You will work closely with internal stakeholders, implementation partners, vendors and third-party providers to ensure the organisation is ready for change and that key milestones are delivered within agreed scope, budget and timeframes.
Key Responsibilities Include
- Developing and maintaining the project plan, timeline, milestones, dependencies and resource requirements
- Coordinating delivery across all project workstreams, including system implementation, process improvement, data migration, reporting, testing, training and transition
- Managing risks, issues, dependencies and decisions through the appropriate governance channels
- Establishing clear governance, reporting and project communication disciplines
- Working with vendors, implementation partners and third-party service providers to keep delivery on track
- Coordinating readiness assessments, go-live planning and cutover activities
- Preparing governance reporting and recommendations for senior leaders, committees and the Board
- Supporting user adoption through clear communication, training coordination and transition planning
- Ensuring the project moves smoothly from implementation into business-as-usual operations
About You
This role will suit an experienced Project Manager who has successfully delivered business transformation, ERP, finance system or business application implementation projects.
You will be comfortable operating in a part-time project environment, bringing the discipline and structure needed to keep multiple stakeholders, vendors and workstreams aligned. You do not need to be a finance specialist, but you will need enough commercial and systems understanding to confidently lead delivery, challenge assumptions and support effective decision-making.
You'll Ideally Bring
- Proven experience managing business transformation or system implementation projects
- Strong project planning, coordination and delivery capability
- Experience delivering ERP, finance system or business application implementations
- Confidence managing vendors, consultants and third-party service providers
- Strong risk, issue and dependency management experience
- Experience facilitating workshops, project forums and decision-making sessions
- Excellent stakeholder engagement, communication and influencing skills
- Experience preparing project governance reporting for senior leaders or steering committees
- A pragmatic, organised and solutions-focused approach
- PRINCE2, PMP, Agile or similar project management certification would be beneficial but is not essential
Experience with finance transformation, Chart of Accounts redesign, data migration, systems integration, readiness assessments or MYOB Acumatica would be highly regarded.
The Benefits
This is a meaningful Project Management opportunity where you will play a key role in delivering a transformation programme with long-term organisational impact.
You'll Secure
- An hourly rate project role with genuine ownership and influence
- Flexible part-time hours, expected to average around 20 hours per week (scaling up/down as per project deliverables)
- The opportunity to lead a full project lifecycle through to go-live and BAU transition
- Exposure to finance systems transformation, operating model change and governance reporting
- A values-led environment with a strong purpose and collaborative stakeholder group
- Wellington based role, with flexible location options considered
