Technical Lead (.NET + React)

Datacom

Our Why

Datacom works with organisations and communities across Australia and New Zealand to make a difference in people’s lives and help organisations use the power of tech to innovate and grow.

Job Summary

We are seeking a versatile, highly skilled, and hands-on Technical Lead with a strong generalist mindset to guide our engineering team. In this role, you won't just write code; you will drive technical delivery, architect robust end-to-end solutions, and mentor other developers. As a generalist and a leader, you thrive on solving complex engineering problems across the entire stack while guiding team priorities, ensuring high standards, and fostering a collaborative, high-performing culture. You are highly adaptable, cloud-agnostic, and ready to grow both technically and as a people leader.

Key Responsibilities

  • Technical Leadership & Team Guidance: Act as the technical anchor for the team. Manage day-to-day task allocation, oversee workload distribution, and ensure the team is aligned on technical delivery.
  • End-to-End Application Development: Design, develop, and deploy scalable, high-performance web applications, maintaining a strong hands-on coding presence and overseeing the full software development lifecycle.
  • Modern Frontend Development: Guide the development of responsive, highly interactive user interfaces primarily utilizing React, ensuring a focus on clean architecture, state management, and optimal user experience.
  • Robust Backend & Integration Architecture: Architect and implement secure, scalable backend services and APIs using the .NET stack (C#). Lead integration solutions that connect internal systems, microservices, and third-party APIs.
  • Cloud-Agnostic Deployment: Guide application deployment across various cloud ecosystems (e.g., AWS, Azure) utilizing infrastructure-as-code principles and modern CI/CD pipelines.
  • Data Layer Management: Oversee database design and optimization for both relational and non-relational databases, maintaining hands-on proficiency in query performance and ORMs.
  • Quality, Mentorship, & Growth: Champion testing strategies and establish high engineering standards. Mentor team members through constructive code and design reviews, with the interest and aptitude to eventually transition into formal people management (such as 1-on-1s and career development) as the team grows.
  • Agile Delivery & Planning: Partner with product managers and stakeholders to break down complex business requirements into clear technical specifications and realistic sprint estimates.

Key Skills & Qualifications

Technical Core

  • Backend Expertise: Strong proficiency in modern .NET (.NET Core / .NET 6+) and C#, with deep experience building Web APIs, RESTful services, and microservices.
  • Frontend Expertise: Solid experience with modern React (including hooks, state management, and modern build tools) alongside a strong foundation in TypeScript/JavaScript, HTML5, and CSS3.
  • Integration & Systems Design: Proven experience designing and integrating complex APIs, webhooks, event-driven architectures, and third-party services.
  • Cloud & DevOps: A cloud-agnostic mindset with experience deploying to platforms like AWS or Azure. Familiarity with Docker, containerization, and building automated CI/CD pipelines.
  • Database Proficiency: Strong skills in database design, query optimization, and data modelling (SQL and NoSQL options).

Engineering Mindset & Soft Skills

  • Generalist Aptitude: A strong ability to quickly pick up new technologies, frameworks, or languages as required by the business problem.
  • Problem Solving: Exceptional analytical and debugging skills across distributed systems.
  • Collaboration: Excellent communication skills with the ability to articulate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Leadership: Proven track record of mentoring team members and driving software engineering best practices (Clean Code, SOLID principles, TDD).
