Dart River Adventures is seeking an experienced Funyak Guide to join our team in Glenorchy. This role is responsible for leading and supervising guests on commercial river-based adventure experiences, ensuring the highest standards of safety while delivering exceptional experiences in one of New Zealand's most spectacular environments.

You'll guide guests through river journeys, deliver safety briefings, instruct paddling techniques, assess river and weather conditions, manage risks, respond to emergencies, maintain equipment, and share the unique stories and landscapes of the Dart River region. Coach driving may be required to support operations but is secondary to the primary guiding function.

What You'll Bring

Applicants must possess either:

  • A relevant NZQF Level 4 qualification (or equivalent overseas qualification) in Outdoor Education, Adventure Tourism, Outdoor Recreation or a related field; or
  • At least 3 years' relevant experience guiding individuals or groups in whitewater rafting, kayaking, river-based tourism, outdoor adventure or a closely related field.

You Will Also Have

  • Experience delivering safety briefings and instructing participants in outdoor activities.
  • Experience supervising individuals and groups in dynamic outdoor environments.
  • Experience identifying, assessing and managing risks in changing river and weather conditions.
  • Experience responding appropriately to emergencies and safety incidents.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • A commitment to safety, professionalism and teamwork.
  • Physical fitness suitable for paddling, lifting and carrying equipment, and working outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Essential Requirements

  • Current First Aid Certificate.
  • Current River Rescue qualification (or ability to obtain within an agreed timeframe).
  • Full Driver Licence.
  • Strong swimming ability and confidence in moving water.

Desirable

  • Class 2 Licence.
  • P Endorsement.
  • Previous commercial rafting or river guiding experience.
  • Additional outdoor adventure industry qualifications.
