Head of Insights & Analytics
Southern Cross Health Insurance
Southern Cross Health Insurance is shaping a healthier Aotearoa New Zealand. Our purpose is simple: empowering our members to live well for longer. We're here to give peace of mind through timely access to quality care, inspire healthier living, and lead positive change across the health system. As a New Zealand-owned, member-based organisation, we're building a future where wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do -- delivering exceptional value for our members and creating an environment where our people thrive.
Now is an exciting time to join us. You'll be part of a high-performing, values-driven team where people are at the heart of everything we do -- and in return for your talent, you'll have the opportunity to grow, make an impact, and be proud of the difference your work makes.
About The Role
Southern Cross Health Insurance is guided by purpose, powered by people and technology. We're here to help almost one million members across Aotearoa New Zealand live well for longer - work with real scale, real responsibility, and a real opportunity to make a meaningful difference.
As we grow to be about assurance as well as insurance - a more proactive partner in our members' health - insights and analytics are becoming central to how we make decisions, from claims performance and healthcare utilisation through to pricing, product and financial planning. We're looking for an experienced analytics leader to own this space: someone who can combine commercial, healthcare and advanced analytics expertise to turn data into measurable commercial outcomes.
This is a senior analytics leadership role for someone who wants to be the trusted voice on healthcare utilisation, cost drivers and claims performance - shaping decisions across product, pricing, healthcare partnerships, member strategy and financial planning.
About The Role
As Southern Cross' Head of Insights and Analytics, you'll lead our insights and analytics capability - combining commercial, healthcare and advanced analytics expertise to generate actionable insights that improve organisational performance and inform strategic decision-making.
Working closely with key stakeholders, you'll provide thought leadership on the drivers of healthcare utilisation, cost and benefit design, applying advanced analytics and AI to identify opportunities that improve financial sustainability and member outcomes.
What You'll Do
- Provide thought leadership, commercial insight and specialist advice - partnering closely with Data & AI to ensure analytics and insights are underpinned by trusted, high-quality data, and engaging key stakeholders across the business
- Apply predictive modelling, AI and advanced analytical techniques to improve forecasting, detect emerging trends, optimise claims performance and identify opportunities to reduce claims leakage and inefficiency
- Translate complex healthcare, clinical and claims data into clear, evidence-based recommendations and compelling narratives that inform strategic decisions, investment priorities and business performance
- Develop and embed scalable analytical frameworks, prioritising effort on the initiatives with the greatest impact on financial sustainability, member outcomes and organisational performance
- Partner with stakeholders across product, pricing, healthcare partnerships, member strategy and financial planning to translate insight into tangible business outcomes
- Maintain high standards of data integrity, governance, quality and explainability, ensuring insights meet regulatory and organisational expectations
- Stay at the forefront of developments in healthcare economics, analytics and AI, bringing external insight and innovative thinking into Southern Cross
What You'll Bring
- Deep expertise in healthcare economics, claims performance, utilisation trends and the drivers of healthcare cost and value
- Advanced analytics, predictive modelling and AI capability applied to real business outcomes
- Thought leadership and innovation, with the ability to influence senior leaders and drive change through insight, credibility and evidence
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical outputs into clear, strategic business insights for both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- A track record of improving performance, reducing waste and creating measurable value
- Strong commercial and strategic thinking that connects financial, clinical and operational perspectives
