Junior Distribution Engineer

We're looking for a Junior Distribution Engineer to join our Network team. This is an exciting opportunity to work alongside experienced engineers and gain exposure to network design, asset management, digital engineering tools, and the delivery of projects that help keep communities powered across New Zealand.
About The Role
As a Junior Distribution Engineer, you'll support the delivery of distribution engineering services through design assistance, technical documentation, data analysis, and engineering governance activities. You'll contribute to engineering projects, help implement innovative digital tools, and assist in translating network asset data into practical engineering decisions.
This role offers a great balance of technical development, stakeholder engagement, and exposure to both traditional and emerging engineering technologies.
What You'll Be Doing
Assist with the preparation and review of distribution network designs.
Support the delivery of customer, maintenance, and capital projects.
Provide technical support on distribution asset-related matters.
Assist with identifying and mitigating risks across network assets.
Maintain engineering documentation, drawing records, and controlled technical standards.
Support the implementation and ongoing use of engineering platforms such as Neara and Elek.
Help standardise engineering calculations, design assumptions, and workflows.
Analyse inspection and asset condition data, including LiDAR, drone, and pole-top imagery information.
Contribute to the development and maintenance of engineering standards and governance processes.
Identify opportunities to improve safety, efficiency, and engineering performance.
About You
You'll be a motivated engineer who is eager to learn, develop technical expertise, and contribute to meaningful infrastructure projects.
To be successful in this role, you'll have:
- A Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical).
- A foundational understanding of electricity distribution networks and power systems.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- The ability to interpret technical information and present clear recommendations.
- An interest in digital engineering tools, data analysis, and innovation.
- A strong commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
- A positive, outgoing personality with the confidence to build strong relationships across the business.
- A team-first attitude, enjoying collaboration and contributing to a supportive, high-performing team environment.
- The ability to engage comfortably with a wide range of stakeholders, ask questions, share ideas, and communicate effectively.
- Experience with engineering design tools, GIS systems, asset management platforms, or power distribution networks would be advantageous but is not essential.
