IoT Technician

Tonkin + Taylor

Join a fast-growing team delivering smart monitoring solutions across New Zealand.

We're looking for a hands-on, technically minded

Field Technician to join our Tauranga-based team. As Cirro continues to grow, we're expanding our field capability to support an increasing number of geotechnical, environmental and infrastructure monitoring projects.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys working outdoors, solving technical problems, and seeing the direct impact of their work. No two days are the same. You could be bench testing and configuring equipment in our Tauranga workshop one day, installing monitoring hardware on a construction site the next, and travelling to a remote location the day after that. Some projects may even involve helicopter access followed by a hike into the field.

If you're practical, enjoy working with technology and take pride in delivering quality work, we'd love to hear from you.

What You'll Be Doing

You'll play a key role in delivering Cirro's monitoring solutions by:

  • Bench testing, configuring and preparing equipment in our workshop before deployment, ensuring everything is verified and ready to perform from day one.
  • Installing and commissioning IoT monitoring hardware and field instrumentation.
  • Troubleshooting installations and resolving technical issues in the field.
  • Carrying out maintenance and servicing of existing monitoring systems.
  • Integrating monitoring equipment with Cirro's telemetry platform.
  • Working safely and professionally across a variety of construction, infrastructure and environmental sites.
  • Delivering consistently high-quality workmanship while adapting to changing site conditions.

What You'll Bring

We're looking for someone who is practical, reliable and enjoys working both independently and as part of a team.

You'll ideally have:

  • Hands-on experience in a field technician, electrical, instrumentation or communications role.
  • A full New Zealand Driver Licence.
  • Strong safety awareness and confidence working in varied outdoor environments.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, both on the bench and in the field.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with customers and colleagues.
  • Confidence using computers and technology platforms.
  • The ability to work independently and manage your time effectively.
  • A willingness to travel as required and work in physically demanding environments.

Bonus points if you have

  • Experience with IoT hardware, sensors, telemetry or data logging systems.
  • Experience within geotechnical, environmental or civil infrastructure monitoring.
  • A qualification or background in IoT, electronics, instrumentation or a related technical field.

Why join Cirro?

This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing business with genuine momentum, where you'll work on technically interesting projects that make a real difference. Your work spans the full journey of a monitoring solution, from carefully bench testing and preparing equipment in the workshop, through to commissioning it in the field and seeing it deliver real data in the real world.

You'll be supported by an experienced, passionate team that enjoys sharing knowledge and helping each other succeed. If you're someone who enjoys learning, solving problems and working with emerging technology, you'll find plenty of opportunities to grow your skills.

About The Role

  • Full-time, permanent position based in Tauranga.
  • Role combines workshop-based bench testing and preparation with field work throughout New Zealand.
  • Salary expected to be in the $60,000–$70,000 range, depending on experience.
  • A varied role combining technology, hands-on workshop work and field problem solving.
