We are looking for an experienced Data Analyst to join our world class team in our efforts to gain maximum value for our marketing efforts. You will play a key role in transforming complex data into meaningful insights, scaling our reporting solutions, and enabling evidence-based decisions that help shape Tourism New Zealand’s marketing decisions and organisational performance.

Working in the Planning and Performance team, you will partner with industry, global and market teams, and government agencies to integrate tourism, consumer, economic, and market data from multiple sources. You'll apply modern analytical techniques to identify trends, opportunities, and risks, and translate these into actionable recommendations and data products that support decision making across TNZ and support accuracy in performance and accountability reporting.

This role combines analytical thinking with strong technical capability, including experience working with SQL, Power BI (or similar BI platforms), cloud data environments, and AI-assisted analytical workflows. The role also plays an important part in curating and strengthening TNZ’s data capability over time, including the use of analytics platforms, self-service reporting and emerging AI-enabled tools to improve the quality, accessibility and impact of insights.

What you will need | Ngā pūkenga mō tēnei tūranga

  • Tertiary qualification in Marketing, Data Science /Analytics or Economics/ Statistics or relevant degree
  • A minimum of six years in an analytics role using data and research to inform commercial, marketing or organisational strategy.
  • Advanced capability in Excel, PowerPoint, Power BI with experience using SQL, data visualisation and modern analytics platforms to analyse, communicate and automate insights.
  • Familiarity with Git-based version control, Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data Lake, Azure Synapse, Python or similar cloud analytics environments would be highly desirable.
  • Data modelling - Demonstrated expertise in designing, maintaining and optimising analytical data models, semantic layers and reusable reporting datasets that support trusted insights
  • Confident and experienced presenting insights, recommendations to senior stakeholders and varied audiences.
  • Proven ability to use data from multiple sources to be able to thread together and reveal insights.
  • Strong influencing skills, with the ability to build credibility and shape decisions without direct authority.
  • Experience partnering with government and research agencies.
  • Confidence using AI-enabled analytics and productivity tools, with the judgement to critically assess outputs and apply emerging technologies responsibly to improve insight generation, reporting and decision-making.
