About the Company
Northpower is a New Zealand-owned essential infrastructure business, delivering energy network and broader infrastructure services that communities rely on daily. It’s one of the few businesses in the country to own and operate both an electricity and a fibre network, while its contracting arm delivers infrastructure services for major partners including Transpower, Vector and Powerco across the North Island. As the business grows, it is investing in a dedicated corporate finance capability to strengthen the rigour behind its investment and capital allocation decisions.
Role Summary – Corporate Finance Lead
This newly created role provides investment and capital allocation decision support to Northpower’s Executive, Investment Committee and Board. Reporting to the Group Manager Finance & Planning, you will lead financial modelling, valuation and strategic analysis for major capital investments, in a hands-on, highly accountable capacity.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead financial modelling and valuation (DCF, NPV, IRR, WACC) for major capital investments and business cases
- Evaluate investment opportunities and recommend prioritisation, timing and sequencing
- Develop and maintain the Group’s long-term strategic, financial and pricing models
- Run scenario analysis, stress testing and Monte Carlo simulations to assess risk and value drivers
- Develop an enterprise capital allocation model linked to EBITDA volatility, portfolio risk and strategic objectives
- Maintain key financial assumptions and value drivers, including WACC and credit metrics
- Prepare high-quality papers and analysis for Executive, Investment Committee and Board
- Track sector, market and regulatory developments relevant to investment decisions
Key Skills & Experience Required
- Degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Commerce, Engineering or Mathematics
- CFA, CA, CPA or equivalent preferred
- Strong background in corporate finance, investment analysis or strategy, ideally infrastructure, utilities, banking or consulting
- Advanced financial modelling and valuation capability (DCF, WACC, capital allocation frameworks)
- Comfortable engaging directly and robustly with senior executive stakeholders
- Experience with scenario analysis, sensitivity testing and probabilistic forecasting
- Ability to distil complex analysis into clear, commercial recommendations
