We're seeking a strategic and influential leader to establish and lead our Business & Corporate Banking (BB & CB) Line 1 Financial Crime Risk function, playing a pivotal role in strengthening ASB's financial crime risk capability and supporting the bank's broader financial crime transformation journey.

Te Tūranga | The Role

This is a unique opportunity to shape and lead a newly established Financial Crime Risk (FCR) function within Business & Corporate Banking. Reporting to the GM Risk – BB & CB, you'll move the divisions beyond managing compliance obligations to proactively identifying, assessing and managing financial crime risk across our customer base.

As a trusted advisor to senior leaders, you will provide strategic direction, pragmatic risk guidance, and thought leadership to ensure financial crime risk is effectively managed while enabling commercial outcomes. You'll partner across Line 1, Line 2 Financial Crime Compliance, Financial Crime Operations, Internal Audit, and executive stakeholders to strengthen risk maturity and embed leading practices across the division.

Key Responsibilities

  • Establish and lead the BB & CB Line 1 Financial Crime Risk function, including coaching, mentoring and matrix leadership of risk professionals.
  • Design, implement and embed the Financial Crime Risk framework for Business & Corporate Banking.
  • Provide executive-level reporting, insights and escalation on financial crime risk matters to governance forums and leadership teams.
  • Monitor the division's financial crime risk profile and control environment, identifying emerging risks and opportunities for improvement
  • Lead significant financial crime risk uplift initiatives and drive continuous improvement across people, process and controls.
  • Influence business decisions by providing thought leadership, challenge and practical risk advice.
  • Build strong partnerships across ASB to deliver positive financial crime risk outcomes and strengthen risk culture.

Ō Pūkenga | About You

You'll be an experienced risk or compliance leader with the credibility and influence to engage at executive and board level, while remaining close enough to the detail to drive meaningful change.

You'll bring:

  • 7+ years' experience in financial services, risk, compliance, legal or a related discipline. Experience in Financial Crime or Fraud is preferred
  • A proven track record of strategic thinking, vision-setting and delivering transformational outcomes.
  • Demonstrated success building, leading and developing high-performing teams.
  • Exceptional stakeholder management, influencing and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to distil complex information for executive, board and governance audiences.
  • A balance of strategic leadership and hands-on execution capability.
  • Critical thinking, resilience and a passion for strengthening risk outcomes.
