The Role
My client is looking for a driven Project Engineer to join and deliver a major infrastructure project in Horowhenua, North of Wellington. In your role, you will work cohesively within the Ō2NL Alliance partnership, reporting to the Project Manager and senior leadership across planning, execution, monitoring, controlling and closure of the project.
Some key responsibilities
- Coordinate contractors and site teams to deliver safe, compliant, on‑time work
- Provide technical support for design development and resolve on‑site engineering issues
- Monitor financial performance, prepare forecasts, and manage variations and claims
- Ensure HSE compliance through site inspections, toolbox talks, and proactive safety leadership
- Maintain accurate project records, reports, meeting minutes, and client communications
- Mentor junior engineers and support continuous improvement
- Assist with tendering, estimating, and procurement activities
- Monitor materials, plant, and resources to maintain efficient delivery
- Support risk reviews, environmental compliance, and consent conditions
What we’re looking for
- Relevant Engineering Qualification and 5+ years of relevant experience in Civil Construction
- Strong understanding and ability with project documentation, reporting processes and digital tools
- Practical understanding of construction methods, specifications, NZ standards and consenting processes
- Excellent communication and leadership abilities
- A solid understanding of quality, safety, and environmental standards
- Proficiency in MS Office and project management software
