The Salvation Army Bridge Services provide a range of effective support services in both residential and community based settings that use a range of evidence-based holistic approaches to reduce the physical, physiological and social harm that can result from the use of alcohol and or other drugs. The Salvation Army Wellington Bridge services provide safe, integrated, high quality treatment and support services to people whose lives have been affected by alcohol and/or other substance use.

About The Role

As our Intake Practitioner, you'll be the welcoming first connection for people seeking support from The Salvation Army Bridge Drug and alcohol Residential Programme. You'll coordinate referrals, undertake assessments, and work alongside whānau and community partners to help people take the next step in their recovery journey.

What Will Your Responsibilities Be

The purpose of this role is to connect with tāngata whai ora and whānau. We provide support through connection, hope, identity, meaning and empowerment (CHIME). The residential programme offers a combination of group, 1:1 and whanau work. The Intake Practitioner will be the first point of contact for referrers and tāngata whai ora. They will assist referrers, tāngata whai ora and whānau to ensure a smooth transition from their current environment and state to that of starting this stage of their recovery journey at the Bridge. Mahi may be carried out at community spaces, alternative services they are involved in, probation, through AVL and the Centre.

Our Ideal Candidate Will

  • Degree in Addiction. An alternative qualification or an alternative relevant qualification such as social work, clinical psychology, counselling if there is accompanying evidence of understanding and work in reducing substance related harms.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Good cross-cultural understanding.
  • dapaanz (or an alternative equivalent) Practitioner Registration
  • Commitment to continuing professional development relevant to addiction studies.
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment, sharing information, ideas and effective practices while maintaining client and service privacy, and confidentiality

Hours of work: This is a permanent full time role of

40 hours per week Monday to Friday however, part time hours may be considered for the right candidate.

This role is covered by the social worker pay equity (SWPE) agreement. An experienced practitioner can earn from $68,000 up to $90,700 per annum.
