Civil Foreperson

Downer Group

Te kōwhiringa | The Opportunity

We're looking for an experienced Foreperson to join our Wellington team. This is an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys leading crews while remaining actively involved in the work on the ground.

You'll take ownership of day-to-day site operations, coordinating people, plant, and resources to deliver high-quality outcomes safely and efficiently. This is not a desk-based leadership role—you'll be out on site supporting the crew, operating machinery, solving problems, and ensuring work is completed to programme.

Whether you're an experienced Foreperson or a strong Leading Hand ready for the next step, we'll provide the support and development to help you succeed.

What you'll be doing

  • Leading, mentoring and supporting onsite crews
  • Planning daily work programmes and allocating resources
  • Operating plant and machinery, including excavators/diggers
  • Driving a positive safety culture and leading toolbox meetings
  • Monitoring productivity and site performance
  • Working closely with Supervisors, Managers and clients to deliver successful outcomes
  • Ensuring projects are completed safely, on time, and to a high standard

Ngā pūkenga matua | Important Skills

  • Strong excavation and plant operating experience
