Help keep one of Christchurch’s most iconic sporting venues at the top of its game. We’re looking for a skilled turf professional to join the Hagley Oval team and play a key role in delivering outstanding playing surfaces for local, national, and international events.

There are a number of sports parks dotted around our spectacular Garden City. Our Metro Sports Turf team are tasked with looking after Hagley Park, One New Zealand Stadium at Te Kaha and sports fields throughout the city's community parks.
Opportunities like this don't come knocking very often. We're after a suitably- qualified Sports Turf Curator looking to further their career by becoming a part of the Council's Metro Sports Turf team based at Hagley Oval.
About the role | Ko te mahi nei
As a Sports Turf Curator, you'll be responsible for the maintenance of the playing surfaces within Hagley Park by mowing and managing the turf health on a day-to-day basis. This will ensure the sports fields meet the standards for our users and community to be able to perform and play on. Their duties include:
- Mowing
- Cricket pitch preparation
- Line marking
- Irrigation
- Fertilisation
- Pest and disease management
- Renovation work
- Match and event day set-up under the direction of senior staff
Due to the nature of operations at a high-performance, multi-use venue, the Hagley Park Turf Management Team operate on a flexible, 7-day roster. Team members will be required to work some weekends, public holidays, and outside standard business hours as required, to support events at the venue. Rosters will be planned in advance and include fair and equitable distribution of hours. This flexible approach ensures the playing surface and surrounding turf areas are maintained to the highest standards before, during, and after all scheduled events.
About you | Ko Koe Tēnei
Your 5 years' experience in turf preparation and grounds maintenance will well equip you for this role. You'll love working in a team environment, with initiative and drive to demonstrate excellence in turf management. This is a chance to work as an important member of a dedicated and passionate team, in a supportive environment while furthering your turf career in a location that will utilise and enhance all your skill.
You'll also bring:
- A relevant trade qualification (Level 4 Sports Turf Management) or equivalent practical experience in a similar role
- A full, current driver’s licence
- GrowSafe certification
- A current Workplace First Aid Certificate
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in stadium or sports field management, including exposure to domestic, national, and international-level events
- Flexibility and availability to work across a 7-day roster

- Hours of work - The Hagley Park Turf Management Team operate on a flexible, 7-day roster
- Position - Full-time, permanent
- Location - This position is primarily based at Hagley Oval
- Salary - The salary band for this position goes from $74,394 to $82,660 per annum based on a 40 hour week. Starting salaries will be based on knowledge, skills and experience the successful candidate brings to the role, and relativities both, within the immediate team and in the broader organisation for the same or similar roles.
