Civil Structures Lead - Three Waters

Mekano Talent

National Lead role, with the option to be based in either Auckland or Wellington.

A well-established, leading New Zealand engineering consultancy is investing seriously in the three waters sector and is looking for an experienced civil structural engineer with deep water infrastructure expertise to lead the charge.

This isn't a typical senior engineering hire. It's a rare opportunity to build a new practice area from the ground up, backed by an established firm's structural talent, reputation and senior leadership team, with a clear pathway to shareholding as the division grows.

The Opportunity

As Water Infrastructure Division Lead, you will establish and grow the firm's structural engineering presence in the three waters sector, bringing your industry networks, technical credibility and business development capability to build a new and thriving practice area.

The role would be a split between business development and technical delivery. Reporting to the Auckland Regional Manager, you will have the full backing of senior leadership, access to experienced structural talent, and full ownership of growth and direction.

What You Will Do

  • Lead the growth of the water infrastructure practice across New Zealand
  • Drive business development - identify opportunities, build relationships and win work across the three waters sector, including with council-controlled organisations and civil structures design-and-build contractors
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key industry stakeholders, including Watercare and Auckland Council Healthy Waters
  • Position the firm as the structural partner of choice for three waters organisations that don't have in-house structural capability
  • Lead and deliver structural engineering across water infrastructure projects - pump stations, reservoirs, water storage tanks and treatment plant structures
  • Recruit and grow a high-performing team around you, with the full support of senior leadership
  • Represent the firm at industry events and help build its profile in the water sector

About You

  • Proven delivery of three waters structures - pump stations, reservoirs, tanks, retaining walls, treatment plant structures
  • An established network across three waters CCOs, civil structures contractors and key delivery consultants
  • A track record of winning and managing client relationships, not just delivering technically
  • Currently operating at Principal, Senior Principal or equivalent level at a recognised engineering consultancy
  • An entrepreneurial mindset - you see the opportunity here and want to own it
  • A strong communicator, credible representing the firm at a senior level
  • CPEng

Why This Role

  • A pathway to shareholding as the division grows
  • Full backing of senior leadership and access to an established structural team
  • The autonomy to build and shape a practice in your own image
