Trees That Count is a trusted environmental organisation working to restore Aotearoa through native reforestation. With strong partnerships across business, government and communities, the organisation is delivering measurable environmental outcomes and entering a new phase of growth and capability.

We are seeking an experienced Chief Operating Officer to lead day-to-day operations and bring the strategy to life.

About the Role

Reporting to the Chief Executive, you will have responsibility for organisational performance across partnerships, marketing, product and technology, finance and our nationwide planting programme. This is a broad leadership role where you will translate strategy into action, drive operational excellence, and ensure the organisation meets its growth and impact goals.

You will build and lead a small high-performing, engaged team, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement in a remote-first environment. You’ll be comfortable rolling up your sleeves, making sound decisions, and working with your people to deliver results.

About You

You are a proven senior leader with strong commercial acumen and the ability to execute and get results. Curious and solutions-focused, you bring:

• A genuine passion for the natural environment of Aotearoa
• Experience leading operations across multi-functional teams
• Strong financial and performance management capability
• The ability to be able to balance commercial outcomes with the purpose of the organisation
• The experience to grow capability and get the best out of people
• A collaborative style with excellent stakeholder instincts
• Confidence leading in a remote, fast-moving environment
