Within Contact’s Wholesale Market team, the Market Strategy & Portfolio team sits at the centre of some of the most important decisions in our business. It’s where market signals, asset performance, fuel supply, risk, and commercial strategy come together to help shape how Contact responds in an increasingly dynamic energy environment. The team plays a critical role in making sure the right decisions are made at the right time, balancing commercial opportunities with the responsibility that comes with powering homes, businesses, and communities across Aotearoa.
This newly created Portfolio Management Lead role is an exciting opportunity to help define what great looks like. You’ll join a highly capable team, work alongside experts across trading, generation, fuels, operations and strategy, and have a genuine influence on how Contact optimises its portfolio and delivers value in the market.

Based in Wellington, day to day you’ll:
- Develop and lead portfolio strategies that maximise value while balancing risk and compliance requirements.
- Provide clear direction and decision-making frameworks that help trading teams respond confidently to changing market conditions.
- Identify emerging risks and opportunities, making recommendations on portfolio positioning, hedging, and operational trade-offs.
- Integrate electricity, gas, fuel, asset, and operational considerations into a cohesive portfolio strategy.
- Partner closely with generation sites, operational stakeholders, analysts, and other specialists to ensure decisions are informed, aligned, and effective.
- Monitor portfolio performance, understand what is driving outcomes, and use those insights to continuously improve how work gets done.
- Support critical reporting and compliance obligations across the energy market.
This is a role for someone who enjoys connecting the dots between strategy and execution. You’ll have the opportunity to influence decisions with real commercial impact while helping create stronger ways of working for the future.
