This is an exciting opportunity for a Senior News and Media Advisor to join Christchurch City Council and take a leading role in producing and managing engaging news content for our community.

Our role at Christchurch City Council is to ensure that our residents are kept up to date with what’s happening in our great city and have the opportunity to participate in the decision-making process.
You will be joining a small, vibrant News and Media team within the Communications and Engagement Unit.

As a Senior News and Media Advisor, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality, timely, and engaging content across a range of channels.
Key responsibilities include:
- Oversight and editorial responsibility for our online news platform, Newsline
- Producing engaging, informative, and timely content for residents across multiple channels
- Assisting the News and Media Manager with advice and responses to mainstream media enquiries
- Identifying, researching, and developing newsworthy content opportunities for use across Council channels

About you | Ko Koe Tēnei
This is your chance to be part of a fast-paced and dynamic news and media environment.
You will be a collaborative team player who can adapt quickly and confidently turn your hand to a variety of tasks. Reporting to the News and Media Manager, you will also act as second-in-charge for the team.
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
- Tertiary qualification in Journalism or a related field
- Significant experience working within a media or communications environment
- Strong writing and editing skills, particularly for digital platforms
- Strategic content management capability, including using customer insight and data to inform content
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills across internal and external stakeholders, including elected members
- The ability to plan, prioritise, and self-manage your workload effectively
- A collaborative and proactive approach to your work

- Hours of work - Monday to Friday
- Position - Full-time, permanent
- Location - This position is primarily based at Te Hononga Civic Offices, 53 Hereford Street
- Salary - The salary band for this position goes from $105,450 to $117,167 per annum based on a 40 hour week. Starting salaries will be based on knowledge, skills and experience the successful candidate brings to the role.
