About the Company

Farmers Trading Company is one of New Zealand’s most recognised and enduring retail brands, operating a network of department stores nationwide and backed by the James Pascoe Group. The company is seeking a commercially astute CFO to join the executive team. This role offers the opportunity to shape strategy, lead enterprise-wide change, and influence the future direction of this highly respected New Zealand business.

About The Role

Reporting to CEO, you will take ownership of a broad portfolio spanning finance, property, loss prevention, and corporate services. Leading a large team, you will serve as a genuine strategic partner to the CEO and Board, bringing commercial rigour and operational leadership to one of New Zealand’s most complex retail environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Drive budgeting, forecasting, and performance analysis across the business
• Overall responsibility for monthly management accounts, board reports, and year-end statutory reporting
• Day to day management of cash flow, bank facilities, FX, and hedging requirements
• Negotiate and manage a large portfolio of commercial leases across the store network
• Responsible for Farmers external audit relationship and Farmers tax compliance
• Attend Board meetings and Audit and Risk Committee meetings and provide commercial insight to the Board
• Review of contracts and legal documentation
• Leadership of the following teams; Finance, Corporate Services, Property and Loss Prevention

Key Skills & Experience Required

• Fully qualified accountant; Big 4 or mid-tier background highly regarded
• Minimum 10 years’ senior finance leadership experience
• Multi-site retail experience highly regarded
• Proven property/leasing experience desirable
• Strong commercial and legal acumen; confident at board and executive level
• Demonstrated ability to lead and develop high-tenure finance teams through change
• Energy, cultural intelligence, and genuine change management capability
