The role | Te mahi

As a Campus Watch team member, your role in the first instance is a pastoral one. You will work to foster and maintain a safe and secure Campus environment that encourages and enables all students to realise their maximum potential.

Campus Watch staff work across campus and in the North Dunedin community, essentially operating as walking information booths for the University of Otago.

We work in five teams on a permanent 24-hour roster (two early shifts, two evening shifts, two-night shifts, then four days off, with the cycle then repeating).

You will be expected to maintain a highly visible presence about the University to prevent crime and disorder, and to respond and act promptly to requests for assistance when personal safety or property is at risk.

Successful candidates will be physically fit and healthy and have:

  • An ability to relate to young people.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • A high standard of common sense, patience, and tact.
  • An ability to form effective working relationships with people of varying backgrounds.
  • A well-developed sense of humour.
  • A reasonable knowledge of relevant New Zealand law.
  • A current Driver’s Licence
  • A current First Aid Certificate or willingness to obtain one.
  • Basic computing skills.

We have a permanent, full-time (37.5 hours per week) position available. This role is academic year only, February to November each year. Academic year only roles can transition to full-year positions as vacancies arise.

This position involves routine shift work outside of core working hours.

The appointment range for this role is $63,508 to $68,185. Top of range $73,640 pro rata per annum.

You must have the right to live and work in New Zealand to apply for these positions.
